I'm on the lookout for a decent sized venue for a charity gig. the gig will include upto 10 bands in one night.

anyone know of anywhere that might be suitable?

I haven't yet approached anyone about this but had the following in mind:

Leadmill
Boardwalk
Under boardwalk (if still open??)
Casbah???
Deep end

Any more recommendations / advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Al :)

Thanks for the info peeps.

Boardwalk is currently my favorite and is a live music pub I want to support for a few different reasons.

Deep end shut???? I take it the bar bit is open but not the back room then?

shame about Under, I knew one of the owners and he was a nice guy. Wonder if he is involved with the new brand?

:)

It's moved on a fair bit since you last saw it

ten bands is a sound engineers worst nightmare

you'll be soundchecking from the early hours of the morning!

I was advised, when trying to set something like this up, to keep bands to 5 maximum, and even then you're probably not gonna get a fantastic sound out of bands.

I think I can recommend carcrash as PA hire/sound engineers (if you're the guy I'm thinking of), as for venues, boardwalk has become a little poo since they got a box office and a very inpolite security guard.

Zero used to be good for decent size gigs, if they took £500 on the bar they'd give the venue for free. but i think they've moved on somewhat since becoming "THE PLUG".

Putting 10 bands on isn't much of a problem if its organised.
I stage managed a 10 band gig at the boardwalk a couple of weeks ago at the boardwalk that went smoothly.
I've done a fair bit of this stuff in the past couple of years. Devonshire Jam, Earl Jam, Heeley Festival and a few other all dayers.

Wow loads of advice and contacts, THANKYOU!!!

I'm to spend an evening getting mails and plans together next week (not got a free night till sun!!) and if ok will be dropping a couple of you an e-mail for further advice if thats ok?

Also I need to contact a couple of venues, the boardwalk still being my favorite for the time being. Might even go down this weekend as already arranged to meet some people that end of town on sat anyway, and scout out this 'unfriendly' bouncer etc will no doubt have changed since I was last in anyhow, been a while now.

Again, thankyou everyone! :)

Hi Alquar, I don't suppose u have a spare slot on this gig for my band do u?

We're called The Superficial Heroes, and have played many gigs at places such as the Boardwalk, Casbah, DNR Live

If u do have a spare slot then we'd definately be interested.

my e-mail is SkaSimmo@fsmail.net

BTW Boardwalk is a good venue, The leadmill is really good though, as it can hold loads and loads, it has two stage areas which can both be used in one gig/event and the sound there is amazing.
