Good to see people getting into recycling. I know it's not the most sexy of subjects, but someone's got to do summat!!!

Anyway, check out the Onyx Website (http://www.onyxsheffield.co.uk/wfacts_sites.asp) or the Recycling Pages (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/environment/waste-and-pollution/waste/recycling-sites) on the council website. Hopefully you'll find something near to your home.

There's also the "Let's Sort It Sheffield (http://www.letssortitsheffield.org/)" website.

Whilst I’m on the topic of recycling, is anyone else frustrated with Sheffield’s method of household recycling?

We live in a small terrace house with a very small bit of a yard at the rear. On this yard we are to store a blue paper recycling wheelie bin, a very large green garden waist recycling wheelie bin (we have a very small yard with no garden waist), and the normal black wheelie bin.

As there are only 2 of us in the house, these bins are never full.

Following a recent visit with friends in Newquay, we found that their local authorities provide rolls of different coloured bin liners (given out by the bin collectors) for paper, tin/aluminium, glass, plastic and clothes. This seems to be a very good method of encouraging recycling without cluttering people’s space.

How can we get SCC to adopt such a scheme.

Over here in North Lincolnshire, parts of the county are taking part in the trial for recycyling waste. My area is part of the trial, with the rest of the county doing it by the middle of 2006.

We have green bins for "ordinary waste", brown bins for "compostable waste", a blue box for paper which lives inside, a green box for glass, and tins. In addition to this we also have other large black plastic bins that we have bought ourselves for hard and soft plastics.

The area we store our bins in is quite small as well, so I do appreciate how much room the stuff takes up. I end up emptying the blue box at least once a week, rather than the fortnightly that the local council collect. While i'm taking that, i end up taking the plastics, glass, and tins as well, so the council recyclers dont take much from my family.

dalesc, can I make a suggestion? If you're on good terms with your neighbours and it's practical you could share your bins and ask Onyx to take some of the bins away.

Does anyone else think that there aren't enough recycling sites in Sheffield centre? In the summer I lived in Victoria Hall by Devonshire Green, and the nearest recycling points were either the Arts tower or Ponds forge. Surely there should be a recycling point at Devonshire Green, especially considering that West One, Royal Plaza and other city centre apartments are so close by.

I recently lived in Turin, and there they had recycling bins everywhere, much more than they have here. Admittedly this is due to the majority of homes in Italian cities being high rise apartments, so they don't have their own individual refuse collections. With the increase in city centre living though, doesn't it make sense to have more city centre recycling points. Sort it out council! :)

I'm sure there are some recycling bins at the bottom of the green on the west.one side before you get to DQ. I've walked past them a few times.

There are some on devonshire green. They take plastic, glass and tins. Also Waitrose has a good recycling site - it takes those silly cartons that fruit juice and custard come it - those tetra paks.
