I had this idea to male my own shoe laces by making an icord and sealing the endings with something, now ordinarily when you buy them, its plastic tips, has anyone got any ideas of what else can be feasibly used.
Thanks

have you thought about using a lucet? It makes a very thin cord, similar to an i cord, you hold it in one hand and the ends are tied off, but i guess you get that with an i cord anyway, so this doesn't help you with your sealing problem! but you are very welcome to use my lucet if you wish.

Thank you for your input drakej, I had thought it too fiddly as I have never done that before, I think it might be something to try... and angrymumtwo, I had never heard of a lucet, so much so that I had to look it up, although to me I'm sure it is good for some people but my learning curve is very small and it takes me ages in learning new stuff, if I am feeling adventurous, I will let you know ;)

The metal tips are called aglets or aiglets or simply tips. They've been used on the ends of cords since medieval times but are expensive.
If you do go down the route of plastic then go to B&Q and get the shrink plastic for sealing wiring. It comes in all sorts of colours and it doesn't fall off your cord.
Unfortunately I have to stick with metal tips for the medieval dresses I've got to make in the next couple of months.
