Has anyone been to Golden Valley Caravan and Camping park, Derbyshire?

Recommended Posts

Yes - awful place. We went once on a spontaneous Bank Holiday weekend and it was the only site anywhere near Sheffield we could get.

We have only been once and it might have been a one-off but there was an on-site pub and it seemed parents were quite happy to get p****d and let their kids run riot.

The surrounding areas aren't too nice either. We walked into a village a couple of miles away and were made to feel very uncomfortable in a couple of pubs by the locals.

The BNP had just held their annual conference in Ripley which also put us off a bit.

One nice thing was a miniature railway a short distance from the campsite which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We went in Feb 2009 for a few days at half term. On paper it should be lovely and it was ok but I found the people who ran it were a little on the rough side. I'm no snob but they were hareing round the site in an old rusty transit to empty bins etc...just my view!

Fantastic site, brilliant for kids. Bank holidays get too busy though and should probably be avoided.

We went last year , our grandaughter loved it , good for a weekend but i think a week would be too long because there are no tourist things nearby. Shower facilities were excellent . A brilliant railway museum is a short walk away with a great model railway and playground and it is next to a tourist farm where the children can feed the animals .

The farm has now closed down sadly.
