View Full Version : New wetherspoons - slammed with £80 parking ticket! technophobe 02-01-2011, 20:45 Well guys be aware some private company has set up at the side of wetherspoons and at 7.10pm on sunday evening slammed a parking ticket on my car! Does anyone know if these are legally binding? :loopy: mr_arc 02-01-2011, 20:46 If it's a private company, no it isn't. AKITA 02-01-2011, 20:50 Which Weatherspoons is it ? technophobe 02-01-2011, 20:53 I am aware that Excell parking do this type of thing but this is a company Ive never heard of before. www.vehiclecontrol.co.uk its even got a premium telephone number who skank £1.50 per minute if you ring and try to sort it. Ive even heard these companies harassing people with bailifs! technophobe 02-01-2011, 20:54 Which Weatherspoons is it ? the new one at the bottom of ecclesall road sedith 02-01-2011, 20:55 Just ignore it, its not a fine just an invoice which you don't have to pay! OOmpa 02-01-2011, 20:58 I am aware that Excell parking do this type of thing but this is a company Ive never heard of before. www.vehiclecontrol.co.uk its even got a premium telephone number who skank £1.50 per minute if you ring and try to sort it. Ive even heard these companies harassing people with bailifs! Its the same company as Excel, don't pay and just ignore all correspondence, there are more threads on the forum and other websites about them! They don't send in the bailiffs only the Council and police can do that for parking offences :) MonkeyLover 02-01-2011, 21:03 we went to the other new Wetherspoons (the one which used to be Aunt Sally's). We paid £2 for parking which is refunded against the cost of food in the pub. Can't really blame them, stops a lot of people parking there and visiting the hospital, without using the pub. So perhaps the one at Ecclesall Road operates the same system. sedith 02-01-2011, 21:10 You'll get two or three letters with increasing threats, the final one threatening bailiffs, then nothing, they get fed up! Do not respond to any of the letters. It would cost them more to take you to court that what its worth and they would almost inevitably lose! olilew 02-01-2011, 21:36 is it not double yellows at the side of the sheaf island? olilew 02-01-2011, 21:38 we went to the other new Wetherspoons (the one which used to be Aunt Sally's). We paid £2 for parking which is refunded against the cost of food in the pub. Can't really blame them, stops a lot of people parking there and visiting the hospital, without using the pub. So perhaps the one at Ecclesall Road operates the same system. its not just against food, you can just buy a half and get your parking validated, its to stop people parking there and going visiting or working at the hospital. the sheaf island has NO parking facility! technophobe 02-01-2011, 21:38 no double yellows. thanks guys. sedith 02-01-2011, 21:39 is it not double yellows at the side of the sheaf island? Private companies like Excel are not allowed to police the public highway and issue invoices for parking on double yellow lines, so whether there were double yellow lines at the side of Sheaf Island is not admissable olilew 02-01-2011, 21:41 no double yellows. thanks guys. if you mean that little one way service road to the flats and the dental practice, i think you'll find there are? unless you parked in those loading bays then you have still illegally parked. sedith 02-01-2011, 22:10 Techophobe ... the bottom line is ... don't pay the invoice! I've got a glovebox full of them ... they won't pursue it, they do look demanding but they are worthless bits of paper, if you were in any doubt see a solicitor! The only people allowed to issue fines is the magistrates court on behalf of the police or council ....thats it. andygardener 02-01-2011, 22:21 Bottom end of eccy road is too close to town to allow free parking given what the ncp's charge. I agree the tickets are private and no bailifs will be involved but the pub has a right to ensure their carpark is for their customers so if you make a habit of parking in it and walking off site then you'll probably get problems worse than unenforcable private tickets. Best bet is to park where you are allowed to by the owner of the space you park your vehicle in then the issue doesn't arise. Cyclone 02-01-2011, 22:32 Well guys be aware some private company has set up at the side of wetherspoons and at 7.10pm on sunday evening slammed a parking ticket on my car! Does anyone know if these are legally binding? :loopy: Were you using the pub, or just abusing their parking facility? HeadingNorth 02-01-2011, 22:36 I'd also like you to move further back in your story. Who gave you permission to park on this piece of private land? olilew 02-01-2011, 22:37 the pub does not have a parking facility! Bonjon 03-01-2011, 08:45 I find these threads amusing, people park where they shouldnt, get charged and start crying. Dont do the crime if you cant pay the fine. Oh and people have been taken to court over these(and lost), recieved ccj's and been blighted with bad credit. All due to not being able to read simple signs or follow simple parking rules. andyofborg 03-01-2011, 09:04 Dont do the crime if you cant pay the fine. its a civil matter not a criminal one and therefore you do not get fined jongo 03-01-2011, 09:05 the pub does not have a parking facility! Then surely the title should be altered so that it doesnt include the name, Wetherspoons. Cyclone 03-01-2011, 09:22 the pub does not have a parking facility! So where did the OP actually park? In a private car park where she(?) didn't pay? brus 03-01-2011, 09:32 Well guys be aware some private company has set up at the side of wetherspoons and at 7.10pm on sunday evening slammed a parking ticket on my car! Does anyone know if these are legally binding? :loopy: Where exactly were you parked ?. jongo 03-01-2011, 09:38 I can't understand why people keep starting these threads, what gives them the right to park wherever they want and expect not to get fined invoiced  I wonder if they are the same people who complain about others parking outside their driveways. No, I complain about that, but I park where I'm allowed to. Bonjon 03-01-2011, 10:14 its a civil matter not a criminal one and therefore you do not get fined But that wouldn't rhyme and sound silly  alchresearch 03-01-2011, 14:22 What happened to Yorkshirefolk being suspicious of anything that was "free". Can you not see the signs or notices? Like the Maccys near the Stocksbridge bypass - there are clear signs in the carpark and right beside the till warning you. |
