I am pretty new to the forum and cant possibly search back through all the threads, so if this has been covered lately I apoligise, just tell me to shut up!

Its a bit nippier today but hasn't it been mild ( I saw a wasp yesterday...in November!). I haven't seen any statistics, but we must have had the mildest October for many a year, and yet they have forecast the worst winter in decades.

Is it going to get gradually colder, or will we just wake up one morning to 2 foot of snow?!

Hope so ...haven't been sledging in years!

It wouldn't be a good old British forum if we didn't talk about the weather... would it?!

I totally agree, I was in town last week and shopping for ages but never wore a coat, just too warm for one yet.

It's a lovely day today. I walked into town instead of getting the tram, and I'm looking forward to going for another walk this afternoon :)

I'm really surprised we didn't have a hosepipe ban this summer...

The trouble is the summers are still not great where as the Autamn (think thats spelt right) is milder than it used to be.
I would not be suprised if you saw a wasp, I have seen a bee in November before and a butterfly to.
If there is a climate change in this country its in the Autamn and winter for sure.

The thing is that although the Autumns/winters are milder, and we have had no significant snow in Sheffield for years, the Met office has tipped the worst winter since 1963.

This did not start though until Boxing day, but carried on until April. So I am wondering if that is what will happen this time.

There was in some parts of the country, and to keep on the subject, I hope it turns colder and snows and gets very frosty in December, cos me and Rlass are off to Tenerife

I know, I think we are the only place in the country to have escaped the snow over the last couple of years. The East and South East got it pretty bad!

Anyway, I saw on the Met office web site that snow is tipped for Tenerife in December! LOL:D

Oh , you nasty man , Owdlad-------gloating in the glorious sun whilst your fellow-citizens sit shivering round a candle stub , sucking mints to keep warm .
Have you no heart ?
At least in Sheffield in Winter , with the fog , rain , snow , sleet , wind and gales , there's no danger of sun-burn or getting stung by a jelly-fish ! So there !

They get some every year but only up at the top of Mt Teide, and me and she who must be obeyed don't venture up there very much. :(

That was taken in 1991

Aye but if the weathers bad the airports will be closed - no matter how warm you think its gonna be in Tenerife - not do you much good if your sat in a snow bound airport :)

Funnily enough I saw a wasp yesterday but it never occurred to me that it was because of the milder weather  Fancy seeing wasps in October !
I hate the blighters, but that's only 'cos I'm petrified of them. I tend to get a bit of an allergic reaction if they sting me

I've got several plants in flower in the back garden. It's rather bizzare, as they include Autumn flowering nerines, and a large (early summer) clematis which has just started blooming again.
