Hi. I have dabbled occasionally in trying to get knitting but find it too mystifying and mathsy. I can knit and purl but can't get past this and am thrown by patterns, tension, guage, yarn sizes and how to adapt them all. I spend so long consulting my huge range of books for techniques and abbreviations etc that I just get totally lost, bewildered and frustrated. Having 2 small and lively children I need to be able to pick it up and have small stabs at an ongoing project.
I'd love to finally crack it but think I need someone who's used to teaching no - hopers, or a step by step foolproof class.
Can anyone help ?
Anyone know of classes out there which even I could learn from?
Yours in hope!
Happy New Year!
Andi :)

Best thing to do is start with 4mm needles, some DK and start with squares. you don't need anything more than that and you are able to make a blanket. Using knit and purl you can rib stitch (knit 1, purl 1), moss stitch (k1, p1 - next row p1, k1) & Basket weave (k4, p4 for four rows - p4, k4 for for rows)
I don't know of any classes but there are plenty to help out at the wool baa and Craftangels.

Gauge and tension are the same thing, maybe you have a mixture of patterns that are UK and US, there is not much difference just some of the terminology.

Good luck, I hope you find out what you need :)

Why not join us at Millhouses knit and natter , I'm sure you'll get some help.
See sticky for details.
If you want a proper lesson , I think Jill at the Wool Baa does them.
