View Full Version : What is up with some people?
mistyraven 05-11-2005, 21:02 I have been to a bonfire tonight with my little girl. and at this fire.
I stood in horror and watched a ten year old lighting firework,s, I said some thing but was told to mind my own, . He was running around with a lighter in one hand and a fire work in the other hand , So rather than stay and watch this child light firework,s and blow his face off . I left with my daughter.. just want to add I don,t know what you lot think but there was about twenty adult,s watching ...
well where was this kids parents?... i wouldnt say anything unless i had children around or he personally started on me... coz nowadays they would gladly fire a firework right at you if you say a word... sometimes saying nothing is better than endangering yourself.
its crap.... but at least you go home not blind.
Mistyraven,
Just view it as an example of evolutionary selection in action.
Behaviour as daft as that will probably ensure that his genes are not passed on to the next generation. :)
Seriously, though, it is infuriating when you see such stupid behaviour. Glad that you and your daughter are OK - not all parents are as caring or careful as you.
Joe
This is just further proof that explosives shouldn't be sold to the general public.
If the only choice was to watch fireworks at public displays, the injuries and truama that could be saved every year.....
Good lord, thats appalling  :(
I'm on tenterhooks if my 7 year old has a sparkler, infact she's only held one once :|
GothicCharm 05-11-2005, 23:14 Thats stupid! Why let a kid do it?? I wouldn't ever light a firework anyways I'm scared of them but... my goodness thats wrong if you cant buy em you cant light em.

Glory_Box 06-11-2005, 20:27 Well my fourteen year old brother had to run from a rocket that just exploded in my dad's garden. My dad was the one who lit it, and my brother now has a weeny bald patch for his troubles. So I hope these little'uns can do better :) Seriously though, that's sick.
bjshooter 06-11-2005, 20:54 Just been watching a group of ten year olds having a firework fight outside. They were throwing them at each other while adults looked on what is happening to kids these days.
Thing is, not that I would wish harm on anyone, people like this get away scot free where as decent people such as the ones at the organised display in Northampton end up burned and probably scarred for life.
The closest I have ever got to an accident with a firework was when I was about 5 and turned the sparkler in my hand round to prevent it from burning towards my hand. Good idea- nasty outcome, because of course the thing was rather warm, and burned through my gloves and into my hand.
It put me off the things for life, and I'd be happy if I never saw another firework in my life. Given the accidents this year at organised events, I don't even think that we can say that organised displays are safe. Safer than home done- yes. Safe- not really.
I would support a ban on sale to the public so that fireworks are only available for controlled displays, but in my mind that would only be because the population at large wouldn't support a total ban.
Thank you for setting a responsible example to your daughter mistyraven. Let's hope that a few more people learn a bit more responsibility soon.
rocketpig 06-11-2005, 22:38 Well done mistyraven for saying something.......that kid could have sent a firework straight towards your child, therefore it is your business.....i wish there were more people like you. People who say they would stand and watch are clearly cowards.
In Australia fireworks are only sold to organised events. The problem with that is that people can't have their own little fire work displays....the good thing is that there are almost no fire work accidents.
Dj_Shadowman 06-11-2005, 23:54 And when the kid scars him/herself for life, the parents will be demanding compensation from someone or another.
It worries me the things people will let kids do in this so called "compensation culture"
And if the fire work had injured someone else, the parents would have still tried to blame someone apart from themselves.
Some people should NOT be allowed to have children.
