View Full Version : Re-watching The X-Files robbie 05-11-2005, 20:59 I forgot how creep the early stuff really is :o JFKvsNixon 05-11-2005, 21:29 I am a big x-files nut and I have had all the episodes on dvd for a few years now. I am one of the few people on this planet who actually enjoyed the last few series. JoeP 05-11-2005, 21:39 I managed to somehow miss the Doggett ones. I intend getting the whole lot on DVD though and so will one day catch up. I DID see the last one where Cancer Man got his come uppance. Some of the episodes were terrifying - and some were very thought provoking. I'm a great believer in the power of coincidence and have to say that one of my all time favourite epiosdes is 'All things' where Scully experiences a truckload of coincidences that helps her resolve isuses from her past. Great and moving stuff. in terms of scarey ****, the one with the in-bred family living in the lonely farm house still scares me to death, as does the epiosde in the cosmetic surgey unit. And then theres..... Let's face it - great series! I only started watching it half way through; I think the first episode I saw was 'The Calusari' towards the end of Series 2. Joe MTheo 05-11-2005, 21:51 i LOVED the x-files when it was odd things and not always the alien/mulders sister stories. toombs and such... fantastic... i think i stopped caring around season 4.. i thought the ones with dogget werent bad episodes actually. Deavon 05-11-2005, 22:41 I loved the X-Files for a season or two until I realised that the back story wasn't developing into an arc. In the umpteen series they produced, they never managed to create a unified direction for all the stories to go. So I lost interest. D2J 06-11-2005, 14:21 Didn't watch it much after season 7, just wasn't the same :( JFKvsNixon 06-11-2005, 14:43 I found the Dogget charactor really interesting, also i thought the releationship between the sceptical agent Dogget and the "I want to believe" agent Reyes started to develop nicely. I liked the way the last 2 series moved away from alien conspiracies, with the "I want to believe" agent Reyes more interested in the occult. spicey 06-11-2005, 15:23 I remember watching the very last episode and Mulder and Scully had a child together that had special powers  I guess I stopped watching after 4th series...... Internetowl 07-11-2005, 14:39 Originally posted by JoeP in terms of scarey ****, the one with the in-bred family living in the lonely farm house still scares me to death, Was that 'Home' in Series 3 - with the mother on the wheeled bedframe....that was well freaky. I liked the episodes with the UFO's in - esp. the early ones. I liked the episodes with the UFO's in - esp. the early ones. If I remember correctly, that was the episode of the "X Files" that generated the most complaints from viewers. It was an absolutely terrifying episode - I could hardly bring myself to watch it on first viewing. That 50s music playing on the car radio was really creepy too. I remember not being able to get that episode out of my head for a good couple of days, and sounds like I wasn't alone in that! It dealt with subjects that are obviously very deeply taboo in people even today. StarSparkle davbak 07-11-2005, 17:06 The episode 'Home', with the family of in-bred freaks and the mother-under-the-bed, was actually cut when shown by the good ol' beeb (and I think Sky also, though they showed it first) and is only available in its complete form on DVD. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the BBC claimed that this particular episode was so horrific that they would never, ever repeat it. Its probably my favourite episode, but its not just the obvious stuff, such as the guys burying the baby alive during the thunderstorm before the opening credits, the brutal murder of the policeman and his wife, or even just the idea of inbreeding into mutation that makes the episode disturbing. What always raises the hackles on the back of *my* neck is the incongrious use of the (I think) Johnny Mathis song that the freaks play in their car as they drive off into the night... |
