View Full Version : Can anyone tap this tune and tell me what it is?

well, i can't remember the notes on piano, so i just wondered if anyone can tap this out with their finger, and figure out what this hippy tune is (no, i wasn't aruond then, but it's good). it's a tune that goes on for ages and just seems to go round and round like a chorus repeating, but it's kickass loud, and would make for a great remix ..maybe

follow the following o's as the set of taps,

the commas are a good pause in between the sets of taps.

the fullstops are a longer break.

wonder if this can work. ps. don't want to be criticised, just tell me the tune / band if anyone can work it out??

here's the rhythm to tap :-

oo ooo ooo o, oo ooo ooo o, oo ooo ooo o, oo ooo ooo o.

o, ooo, oo ooo ooo o, oo ooo ooo o, ooo ooo o.

thanks, i've been trying to remember for yeeaarrrrs !

its got be t rex--hot love--chorus goes on for about a week!--more of a glam rock tune than a hippy one though!-early 70s!

rlara
04-11-2005, 19:37
please tap with your fingers peeps, that will avoid injuries and better chance it resembling music ...

hmmm more clues, sorry can't begin to think what instrument it's really played on, but it's quite high pitch and all instrumental,
must be guitar, but doesn't sound much like one

rlara
04-11-2005, 19:41
heck it might be t-rex, but still not sure, i'll givve hot love a try mikeyspikey... x :D

Where have you heard this track....was it in an advert on the telly, or something like that?

Do you know when it was first released, e.g. 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s?

Is it rock, blues, middle of the road, or whatever?

All I get when I tap it out, at the moment, is a footie chant:loopy:

I was ripping some music from CDs, and this is a long shot.....could it be "Fanfare For The Common Man", by Emerson, Lake & Palmer....the version I'm just ripping is live and goes on for over seven minutes.

One thing about your Os....you don't say whether they are crotchets, quavers or whatever?

Have you tried this website?

Joffrey
19-02-2006, 12:53
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

A really good and free editor.

You also need this program if you want to export your file to .mp3

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

The first time you want to export a file to mp3 it will ask you where to find the lame.dll file, browse to it and it should be all good.

This seems very much like the fourth movement of Janacek's Sinfonietta, entitled 'The streets of Brno'. You may remember it as the theme tune to the TV series 'Crown Court'.

hi evr1 thanks for criticisms and some praise, well i've transferred it onto the comp from mobli now, took me a while but did it sorry joffrey couldn't figure out 'audacity' so used 'smartaudio' instead which took the brains out of the scenario for me :| now it's an mp3 file, just don't know how to post it onto site or pm now  :help: next step, will post it on here for all to have another laugh :suspect: :o :hihi: :) and hopefully tell me what track / band it is ????????????

Send it to me I'll put in on my website for a few days if you want with a direct link to it posted onhere. How big is it?

Ann*
20-02-2006, 17:23
You won't be able to send it via PM, for the same reason that you can't post an attachment on SF.

However, if it's a small enough file, it can be e-mailed to anyone who is prepared to put it onto a website, and post the link here.

It's by Jethro Tull, but what track...

Edit: Months later, I think it's "House of the King" by Focus.

living in the past ? perhaps:help:

Ann*
21-02-2006, 21:46
I can hear that, in my head, originally being played on a keyboard.....I still think it may be Emerson Lake & Palmer....maybe a track from Pictures from an Exhibition.

At one point I thought it could be Hocus Pocus, by Focus, but it's not.

Otherwise, could it be Rick Wakeman.

ooooooooooh this is really bugging me now:huh:

island3rlara
21-02-2006, 23:43
Yaaaay! Jethro Tull sounds right, thanks maggi.    Not sure if it is "living in the past" depooix though its very similar, like that one too anyhow. Now I'm gonna be checking out a bunch of old lp shops see if they've got an original??????? Or cd, cos I just wanna get my hands on it now !! thanks all !! :partyhat:    Still open to more guesses please till I get the actual cd or smt - will let you know !! Joffrey
22-02-2006, 06:00
if it is jethro tull, "thick as a brick" comes very close to your humming, i'm not really convinced, but its not "living in the past" although I dont know whats going on in your head and how you express things :-)

island3rlara
22-02-2006, 19:39
I know what you mean joffrey but it's just like I hummed it, I've got notes in my head which I know are absolutely spot on, it 's the only thing I havent forgot or got mixed up about it. Don't think its thick as a brick either... :( oh. to be confirmed. ironic if it was though eh.

That site is fun... it got Listen to Your Heart and the Boy With the Arab strap well enough but missed the boat on Joyride and Road Rage (came up with Hot Stuff for the latter, which, when you think about it, isn't a bad guess)

25-02-2006, 22:29
It's very much like "Bike" by Pink Floyd....

"I've got a bike, you can ride if it you like. It's got a basket, a bell, and things to make it look it look good...."

It's from The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.

Ann*
25-02-2006, 23:35
Just as a matter of interest, island3rlara, was this track a big hit?

I'm watching the 100 Greatest No. 1s, and The Animals' "The House of the Rising Sun", and Procul Harem's "Whiter Shade of Pale" have similar riffs to what you describe, but they're not exactly the same.

I don't know Ann_x I wasn't around when it came out :|

By the way, this track is totally instrumental, no singing at all as I can remember. If there is, it'll be on the very slim side. So listen to it, and tap to it, and see if you know it. Cheers :)

Woo hoo

There's just been a trailer on BBC1 for a new sitcom called Saxondale, and what music was playing over the top....?

It was "House Of The King" by Dutch prog-rockers Focus as used for the theme of 70's science series "Don't Ask Me" presented by Dr Magnus Pyke amongst others.

There you go island3rlara.....I knew we'd get it in the end, although I have a feeling someone may have mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I can't be sure without reading all the way through.
