Totally baffled, Sheffield is such a strong bastion of fox hunting traditions I can't understand why you've had no replies.

I will be supporting the High Peak Harriers, meet at Bakewell Show ground 11.30am, Monday 27th Dec. The shops, cafes, pubs and chippy will be open.

Yep, it is a great meet and will be well attended and Policed as in previous years to make sure no anarchists have a go at breaking the peace and Law.
The scent trail probably will get laid earlier that day and the traditional and historical hunt will commence about 12 noon.
A lot of money has been raised by the High Peak for the RBL i understand.

So these are just "scent trail" hunts thens, is that right? can someone please tell me that in spite of a change in the law people are still not going out hunting live animals.....

Yes that's right a sack or similar dragged by a quad, bike or runner and the same custom is followed. The laid trail is followed by the hounds and horses follow.
It's gone on from the 18th century obviously to cull the fox population which caused destruction to farmers fowl and eggs and chicks etc in the wild.

I'm almost positive that they don't hunt live animals but don't quote me on that because I don't know for sure.

Not when the observers are there anyway.

Hunting hares with dogs is banned. Or are the dogs just used to 'flush the hares out'?

Unfortunately the change in the law only bans hunting with dogs and there are always ways unscrupulous people will try and get around it.

Hunting with dogs is banned laid down by the Law.
I was in Notts yesterday and the shoot was out, they bagged 15 brace of Pheasant and 5 rabbits. The shoot is run by the farmer near Ollerton where he breeds Turkeys for Christmas dinner, has a 2000 egg hatchery for your chucky eggs and a large field of free range pigs which go to Tesco. When the chickens have laid out they go for pies and prison food. If the shoot had come across any fox they would have shot that too...

Hunting with dogs banned? How hilarious!!!! What does happen is that the hunt will ride out to "train" their dogs. If their dogs accidentally catch the scent of a fox, chase it and tear it to pieces they haven't broken any laws. Unbelievably barbaric and shocking that the police attend many of these hunts to stop protesters from disrupting the hunt! I suppose it might help with the allocation of police resources that the hunt often has a chief constable riding with it.

To be honest, I would imagine many hunts will do nothing this Boxing Day other than trot around their meet point, have the obligatory stirrup cup or two, show off the pack and then drive home again, with the hard frozen ground and all.

The original post was asking for info on local hunts happening on boxing day. Discussion about the rights and wrongs of hunting with hounds can be found elsewhere.

Thats right I only asked about any hunts this year, not intending to reopen the debate about the rights and wrongs of hunting.
I will think twice before posting any other enquiries on any subject.
