Does anyone know much about getting grants for things?? I live in Burngreave and they are still injecting loads of cash to the area for improvements.. Before I bought my house the council went up the street replacing roofs and windows and walls to improve the area. I want to see if I am entitled to anything but not sure where to go or who to ask. Yea I can just ring the council but they generally just pass you about!
Any info would be appreciated.

You should phone the planning dept as first port of call. They should help you. When bought this place my Ex rang them (not got this far north yet) and got loads of info. But if my memory serves me right, you had to have owned the property for 3 years.

I reckon there's probably someone out there who can tell you more though. Seems whatever your question in Sheffield - someone on the Forum will know!

So come on everyone......

I though it was environmental housing who dealt with the grants?

Either way, expect to wait a year or two - Except if the house was previously split up for mutltiple occupancy in the past (ie, the house was subdivided into separate flats) in which case it's a ten year wait!

Those areas of Sheffield are priority areas for grants (I have been told, by a builder who does a lot of the work) so stick with it.

there are grants and schemes available for work that will improve the energy effciency.
If you or anyone living in your home has a disabilty of some kind you can get improvements for that.

I have heard about getting grants for other improvements but I don't know exact details.

I would try both of the suggestions given, can't hurt they may even lead you in the right direction!

Gud luck in getting them! There seem to be no reason behind which houses they are doing up! They have completley missed my block out! We have written to the council to see how u apply... but that was weeks ago!
