Hi
I'm putting a radio package together on the misuse of fireworks in sheffield as part of my course at the University.
Basically it seems that Sheffield more than most places suffers from people letting off random bottle rockets in the street, often at like 10am and other strange times!
I'm looking to interview people who've had poor experiences with fireworks either this year of in the past.
Are you being kept up at night? Are your pets struggling to cope with the trauma? Has your house or neighbourhood suffered from firework attacks.
I've already spoken to one old lady who had a firework put through her letter box - I mean for god's sake!
Interviews would take place next week at whatever time suits and would take a maximum of fifteen minutes. I can come to you aswell.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I used to love fireworks but now I hate them apart from professional displays. For the past three years I have had them go wrong in our private bonfire night. I am supprised my face is still intact and that I can see to be honest. This year i will be staying well well well back.
I dson't think they are safe and the manufacturers should take responsibility when they go wrong.

Don't know if there are official figures but I've lived all over the place over the past 10 years and Sheffield is definitely the worst place I've lived for it - that's why I put "it seems to be" rather than it definitely is!

I've also lived in many other cities and have never seen quite so many fireworks shops as there are in Sheffield,..................Mmmm 2+2=?
(might have something to do with it)

My experiences are with fireworks going wrong, not with kids messing about with them. for example. year before last I had bought a massive rocket. it cost me over 20 pounds so It was display material. We has sufficiant distance, lit it and the stick came off it. The rocket was just hovering, spinning above our heads. We were all running for cover. I got in a corner and it landed next to me still going. Just as I turned and started to dive away it blew. It was all a blur and god knows how my face was ok and I could still hear and see. The blast was that big, do you know those Littletykes red and yellow cars for kids. Well it blew one of those to smithereens, and sent all picures flying off the walls in the house. I was nearly death for a couple of days and had bits of plastic from the rocket in my let but thats all.
i had never felt so lucky in my life.
Last year a similar incident but the rocket never set off from the ground. I shouted to get people out of the way. my father and brother-in-law were just sat on garden chairs oblivious to what happening so I took them to the goung with a rambo style dive. I just smashed my nose in on the ground. Poring with blood!
