megalithic 11-12-2010, 00:19 Do the homeless qualify for this. ?
Sheffield Homes tenants pay rent over 50 weeks.
There are two rent free weeks..
Housing benefit is calculated accordingly.
It's a nice little break in rent payments for working tenants.

Both of them? :hihi::hihi:
Wk beginning 20th and 27th of December
Narden Dee 12-12-2010, 02:34 Also be aware that if you have any arrears then payments must still be made in these weeks especially if you have been to court for arrears ( they are not free they are just worked out of 50 weeks as its easier to calculate )
speedy69 12-12-2010, 14:55 Can anyone tell me when the 2 weeks Mortgage free weeks fall ? ;)

SMI. Private insurance. Borrow to let scum. Mp's 2nd 3rd... homes. Prison, the army & death.
Payments acquire equity. Once the mortgage is paid you get unlimited free weeks.
Rent must be paid forever.

Two weeks of free rent of what?
HeadingNorth 17-12-2010, 19:50 Two weeks of free rent of what?
All council tenants in Sheffield have their annual rent divided by fifty, not 52; and therefore the two weeks over Christmas and New Year, no rent is payable.
And it is, indeed, all council tenants. Not that it makes much difference if your entire rent bill is covered by housing benefit.
Flutterbyes 17-12-2010, 19:51 as far as I know its only people in council homes that receive 2 rent free weeks

If you pay rent to sheffield city council everyone gets 2 free rent weeks.
Gem & Garth 17-12-2010, 19:59 Thanks all
You have 2 free weeks rent 20th and 27th of December, only people with an account in the black can have it. you must not be in arrears with your rent or have an order seeking possesion of your property ..... simples

However, if you're not up to date with your rent, you end up being charged rent for those 2 weeks as well.

Im with Sanctuary, I got a letter saying my 'free' weeks were the weeks commencing 13th and 20th.
Ms Macbeth 17-12-2010, 22:00 Different social landlords such as Places for People may operate free rent weeks, their tenants should know if any such agreement exists. Its already been pointed out that rent is calculated annually, and instead of being divided by 52, its divided by 50 to give two 'free' weeks. Tenants who still pay their rent on a weekly or fortnightly basis don't have to pay for those two weeks if their rent account is up to date.
Tenants who pay monthly, by direct debit, have their rent account divided by 12 so won't notice any difference. And tenants whose rent account is in arrears must pay ever week as normal.

Thatcher made a big effort to resolve that problem, by allowing people to buy their council homes and counting the number of years' rent they'd already paid as covering part of the equity.
Oddly, it's the very people who claim to be supporting the poor, who argue that it was a bad thing to do.

Is that true? I thought it was merely a case of using those two weeks to pay off some of your arrears.

Youre right, theyre not going to charge you extra if youre in arrears, its just so you can catch up a bit.

I presume that's what vague boy meant ;)

I'm reminded of a long-ago management training course, where it was said that any statement contains five parts:
1> What you said.
2> What you think you said.
3> What you really meant.
4> What the audience thinks you said.
5> What the audience thinks you really meant.
I took his statement at face value; that if you were in arrears, you would be charged rent in those two weeks. What he probably meant was that if you were in arrears, you would have to make payments in the two rent-free weeks in order to pay off some arrears.

chickywiggle 18-12-2010, 11:55 shame my private landlord won't treat me that way and i bet i pay considerably more for the pleasure of working and paying my own way in life.

Ask your landlord if they will let you spread your rent payments over 50 weeks instead of 52 they may let you just like the council do for their tenants
