I've just posted this in another thread, 47/48 is getting really bad:

Last night I waited 50 minutes for a 47/48, and when it turned up the driver stopped at Firth Park - he had to go home for his tea. Everyone else had to get off and walk home in the cold and dark for theirs. Now that the nights are colder and darker, surely it's wrong that people can't be guaranteed transport home from work?

Unsurprisingly, this morning I waited half an hour for a 48 to get to work. After about a month of a sverely deteriorating service I decided to call and complain. I reccomend everyone does this, after all it's supposed to be a service to the public, and people who pay for daily/weekly/monthly passes are expecting buses to turn up at some point, and to then take them to the destination stated on the front of the bus.

The number for complaints is:

01709 566344 - it takes 5 minutes and they guarantee a response.

Also, there is a petition going round for a decent, reasonably-priced bus service in Sheffield - something which First obviously aren't providing. Alternatively, people can lobby the council about this poor service - Sheffield used to have the best buses in the country, now it seems to have the worst.

The council have no real powers though. They can talk to First, but they can't do anything. First is just a commercial business, same as the Halifax, or Tesco.

I tell you, those greedy people who voted for Thatcher are the ones to blame.

True, but the more pressure is applied, the more likely it is people could see real results.

There's too much apathy about this subject, people should stick together and be 'pro-active' - write to the Star, post on this forum, sign the petition, ring the council, ring First, do everything it takes to get a decent bus service in Sheffield. Remeber subsidised buses in the '80s? I hate Thatcher as much as the next man, but the buses were a million times better then.

Route 53 was running fine last night when I travelled from Bradway to Neepsend and back.

yeah I waited 30 minutes for a 47/48 last night, ended up with walk to where I was going because it never turned up. Nor did it pass me when I set off on my walk.

I don't know how first have the cheek to hike up prices when they provide such a rubbish service.

Another service which is poor is the 17 bus route. For the past 2 or 3 weeks the 5:15 from city centre has not turned up, and it's 40 minutes until the next 17 supposedly arrives.

I could go on and on, but I won't. I'd be here for ever complaining about the first bus services.
