Anybody know if there's a bonfire in endcliffe park this year?

I have happy memories from my youth of stumbling around in wellies.

Doubt it. When I was a Ranger working in Endcliffe Park the council policy was to stop these local events and move resources, including staff, into getting the public to go to their large organised events such as After Dark and Fright Night. More money in this, unlike a free bonfire, plus reduced Health and Safety costs - imagine if they allowed a bonfire in every park or greenspace in Sheffield-they would have to provide staff to marshall the event and would leave themselves open to claims if anyone got injured.

Pity though!

Oh wow yes that used to be cool. It was ALWAYS a total mudpit but very happy event. They used the have the most enormous bonfires as well.......it is missed, dont like the BIG one they have as it loses all its intimacy and meaning.....


another daft Council Policy to CENTRALISE everything and remove services which are area based.....crazy

I used to like watching the bonfire being built up the week before.

I'm still looking for somewhere around here that's doing a bonfire / fireworks.
We went to After Dark last year and although the fireworks were fantastic it's a long way to traipse and I'm not too bothered about seeing the latest boy/girl band or the funfair.

May just have to be a few bangs :o in the back garden, not quite the same, I know. :D

The bonfire in Chelsea Park is always really good and well-organised by the local scout group. It's on Saturday with the bonfire being lit at 6:30 and fireworks at 6:45. Well worth a visit

The bonfire in Endcliffe Park was always a fantastic night out and it is a real shame that they dont do it anymore. Now if you want to go to a decent organised event, you have to pay god nows how much to go the one at Don Valley. What a shame:loopy:

I agree beebo, I wish they would bring it back to the local parks but unfortunately can't see it ever happening.

Go to the Fat Cat pub, 5th Nov, at Kelham Island. Very good bonfire, fireworks, bbq & great beer. Very cosy & intimate. But beware. Very very very busy.

Where is the fat cat pub? everyone keeps mentioning it but have no idea where it is, anywhere near ecclesall rd? Want to go to a good fireworks display that isn't at don valley. Help please :help:

It's on the other side of the city centre, near the river. I'm after a decent display that isn't the Don, hopefully somewhere on the south side of town, any suggestions?

The best one I've been too was in a big park near Nether Edge done by a scout group. I'll try and find out which park it was. :)

er...that's be the chelsea park one mentioned above :p

mystique, you don't need tickets, just turn up...or at least that was the case last time i went. it's generally pretty good - kiddy-friendly, tho this year i'll be taking my lil un to the one at heeley city farm.

I would think that Heeley city farm will be a fantastic display tho' after their win on Monday night - hope they don't spend it all. ;) Enjoy.

Hi all, correction to the Chelsea Park timing, the Scout advertising has shown 2 different times so I have checked and the bonfire will be lit at 6.00 NOT 6.30 as said before. Fireworks still at 6.45, food from about 5:30. There is no entrance fee but they do ask you to make a donation, which is only fair as the show is pretty good.

Thread is old but there is a bonfire in Chelsea Pk this year. Starts at 5.30pm.
