I am going to liverpool for a day next week. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay for 1 night in the city centre. Is there any good hostels or cheap hotels that you could recommend?

Damon 04-02-2004, 11:23 If you're after bog standard, cheapish Travelodge type places, there's a decent Travelodge on Old Haymarket - nice building designed by Urban Splash. There's also a new Travel Inn on Vernon Street. Both of these are in the city centre. There's a Holiday Inn Express and a Premier Lodge, both in the Albert Dock on the edge of the city centre, though I think these cost a little more. There are loads more places that I'm sure you can find with a web search - there's a cluster of smaller budget hotels round the waterfront such as the Campanile, the Ibis and the Formula One. Of course, there's always the Adelphi which is always an... erm... 'experience'. The building is vast and amazing, but its glory has faded under the management of the Britannia chain, and the service is as eccentric and bizarre as you might expect if you watched the TV series.
