View Full Version : Vandalism on the 51 bus route?
Leviathan 04-02-2004, 09:03 Trying to get home from work in the evenings has been a bit of a pain over the past couple of weeks, since the 51 bus route has apparently been suffering from vandalism up at Lodge Moor.
A lot of the buses in the evenings have not been running past crosspool, because apparently kids are throwing bricks or stones through the windows of the buses.
A couple of nights ago one driver said that the bus before him had a brick through the windscreen that had nearly killed the driver! Utter madness!
I wonder what the police are doing about all this? It always seems to occur between 6pm and 9pm (just when I am back in Sheffield from work!), so surely the police could put a plain clothed officer on the bus ready to chase the little b*****ds!
Anyone have any info on whats being done about it?
Why have they not done anything about this?? Is it kids 'playing about' but causing havoc or some mad b******?
Maybe a youth club would help? Keep the kids occupied. Maybe the answer is here? http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6816
Leviathan 05-02-2004, 08:23 I'm not sure whether it's just kids mucking about or someone who's more seriously tapped in the head. Since it's been happening a lot it must be pre-planned to some extent - whoever has been doing it realises that they can get away with it, and so does it several times in a week.
There is already a youth club up at lodge moor, for what its worth. I've lived nearby for most of my life and was never really interested in youth clubs or smashing buses. If it is kids doing it just "because they can", then they deserve a bloody good hiding.
Could have killed someone.
jackthedog 05-02-2004, 08:48 I read an article in the Star a while ago that said along troubled bus routes, the buses would be followed by police in plain clothes cars/vans, and that they'd be able to catch the losers in the act.
I'm not gonna be suprised to find out that this was never implemented.
steelblade 05-02-2004, 08:51 Don't get me started on this :D
jackthedog 05-02-2004, 08:59 I read your initial pre-edited post.
What a bunch of nobs.
steelblade 05-02-2004, 09:03 Jack I had to edit it, I get too angry and I would have just gone on and on :D

steelblade 05-02-2004, 09:21 I think what annoyed me when my father in law told me what happened was that one of the kids stood there whilst the police were called and said "what da ***** ya calling da feds for man dey aint do **** to us" blah blah blah you know the mock jamaican accent they put on even though they've never even seen jamaica, that really annoys me.
They know the police will A) not show at all
or B) will show and do nothing.
It's a joke.
noseyrosie 05-02-2004, 21:14 DON'T GET ME STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the people you are describing are generally known at Tapton School (nearby) as the Crosspool Massiiiiiiiive. There's also the Fulwood Massiiiiiiiiiiive. Not to belittle or patronise any people int these areas who are experiencing these kids, but this is the most affluent area of the city (and Lodge Moor!) and the difference (generally) between the kids from that area and the ones near where I live is astonishing. It's basically 'eyes to the ground' when you walk past them, and I wouldn't even consider heeley to be a 'rough' area!
All of the local shops in our area are now closed or are going to close because the kids hang around outside hurling abuse at strangers who a) 'ave been sayin' summat about their shazza, b) won't buy them fags, or c) look at them and have scared away the customers.

Are you somehow implying then that I have no right to complain about t***s, whoever they may be, throwing bricks through the bus window (with the genuine potential to kill someone) simply because the kids around lodge moor might not be as "rough" as those living near you, or other areas?
I don't really understand why you feel the need to reply with a comment that implies - "My problems are worse than yours, so don't complain" You will always find areas that have worse problems than your own. It doesn't make it any more acceptable.
Regarding your comments on the "crosspool massive" - yes they may well be very sad, but do you know it is these kids responsible, or are you just assuming?
In my experience, quite a few of the kids that hang around areas like Crosspool etc come from other parts of the city to hang around with their mates (Tapton School has a very big catchment area). If these kids are causing trouble here, then I suspect they also cause trouble back in their own areas. I personally don't give a damn where they come from, as long as they don't sh*t on my doorstep!
qazitory 06-02-2004, 17:45 The trouble is, this is happening on many bus routes. They sometimes divert the 52 because of things being throw at the buses, and the 17 changes route after 6pm.
andy1702 06-02-2004, 23:16 Speaking as a bus driver, here's my solution. Next time some little b' stard throws a stone / brick / snowball it's an excellent excuse to 'accidentally' loose control of the bus, mount the pavement and flatten the little sods faces into the tarmac!
Let's have less of this goody-goody kids can do no wrong approach !
Excellent Andy. Squish a few, they might stop then, especially if you get the right one first time:thumbsup: and if someone had just put your screen though you would be likely to loose control anyway:D

OOh, yes please. (wicked grin!) the sooner the better!
Trouble is, the little scroate's parents would very quickly be up in arms about that sort of cure, cos THEIR "little angel" would NEVER do ANYTHING as wicked as that, now, would he? (removes tongue form cheek)

daveydarco 27-02-2004, 02:38 Hi I'm new to this site but this was the first post that caught my eye. I have lived in the Crosspool area for some time now and I've seen a lot of the kids grow up from being tiny. From what I have seen over the years things in Crosspool/Lodgemoor have got much worse. The gangs that used to hang around those area's were lot less troublesome. They looked out for their area and gave hell to anyone that wasn't from there. They did that because the kids that would come in from other area's often caused trouble and when they'd vanished the local gang was often blamed. Now it seems the gangs that hang around are much younger more troublesome and all live in the area.
I have a younger nephew who attends School in Crosspool. One day on the way home from a friends house he was attacked by three 15 to 16 year olds. He phoned me from a with held number and asked me to collect him as he was too scared to call for his mum. I drove to pick my nephew up as quickly as possible, worrying about what kind of state he'd be in when I arrived. When I arrived just outside the Shiny Sheff Pub I saw a very tall shady looking character about 6ft2 in a black parker, cap and baggy trousers. I immediately assumed he was the culprit. Unsure what to do I approached him thinking I'm about to get the same as my nephew when he turned round and said "it's ok leave it with me." The look on my nephews face was that of someone who'd just seen God.
He quickly scampered after that and I took my nephew home. They had punched him 3 times in his face and taken his pocket contents. The next day at school one of the real culprits approached my nephew again; this time with a black eye and an apology. His excuse was *I was drunk and didn't mean any of it*
It seems this illustrious character had not only gotten the little sh*ts a beating for me, he'd also got them to apologise. Later that day when my nephew came home from school a brown envelope containing his stolen phone, wallet and house keys was found under the letterbox.
Since then my nephew has been told this fellas name is "Jay" and I'm told he is the Mr Big in those area's. If anyone knows this chap please could they say a very big thanks to him from my nephew especially.
My nephew now *respected* by the naughty kids in school because of his backup from "Jay" says boys from around the Gypsy camp area are to blame for throwing stones. As they were bragging about breaking bus stops, phone boxes and bus windows at school. A short half Mexican boy and another Jamaican are thought to be the main trouble makers in that area. My nephew has pointed out all known "Crosspool Massive" etc members to me and I shall now be keeping an eye out for them.
I'll stop rambling now.
steelblade 27-02-2004, 08:51 What a nice chap that Jay was, it's a shame things don't usually turn out like that.
A few weeks ago all the residents in my tower block were sent a letter from the police asking us to write to them with any information we had about the kids who regularly vandlise our homes.
I wrote to them with names and addresses of the kids involved so did a lot of my neighbours.
Nothing has changed, the kids are still here ruining our homes, setting them on fire etc...
I did put in my letter I hope this isn't just some project to achieve some silly government targets, sadly it looks like I may have been right.
All talk no action, the same old story.
daveydarco 27-02-2004, 12:11 We could do with a group of real gangsters like that Jay fella to go round n sort all the little ****sos out.

very true!!
i guess kids!!
it gets worse when snow is about!! im guessing that is partly why they cloed my school today!
snowboarder 29-02-2004, 10:15 So where do this FULWOOD MASSIIIIIVE lot hang out? I have never seen them........
Me neither - unless it's that rather motley group of kids that keep getting cleared off from outside the Co-op. Hardly a threat to world peace. :)
