I'm convinced they have been building them since before I moved here (July 2001). Certainly that road behind the Swim Inn has been closed for as long as I can remember, although I still try and drive down it occasionally and have to turn around (I'm a bit dim).

Anyway, I came out of Budgens today and the road's open. It looks like there's still a lot of work to be done though.

Anyway my question is how long does it take to build a block of flats these days? And can someone give me a reality check and confirm that this has all been going on for as long as it seems?

Hmm not sure how long it's been, but it's close to 2 years i'd say. It's being built in three phases, and they are now just completeing the final phase. It is the biggest appartment development outside of London, so it was always going to take a while. I still think, evn though it's impressive, it will look crap in 5-10 years. A big squary building with no real design features to speak of. It seems a little strange that when sheffield council are in the process of re-designing the city and knocking down all of the ugly 70's buildings, they're spending hundreds of millions on replacing them with similar ugly buildings. Nice!

I bought one and was meant to move in (from what I can remember without checking the documents) something like A YEAR AGO ! I still don't know when I am likely to move in and information from the developers is sporadic and vague so I assume they don't know either.

It has been so long now that I can't remember when I was due to move in and why I even bought one in the first place.

It is a bloody joke - I could go into a full blown rant here but will resist.
Sir Christopher Wren built St. bleedin Pauls in less time.

Yeah a mate of mine, moved into his recently, 9 months late. However, it's worth nearly double whatr he paid for it, so it's not all bad.

The reason they are taking so long with the flats is because there was a fire in the basement which put the scheme back by 6 months. I think it took out the area around the crane at the bottom so that's why it took so long to get back on track.

I remember seeing the article in the Sheff Star about the fire. There were only about 5 or 6 flats occupied at the time and were very worried as the fire alarm system didn't go off. They were awoken at 4am by Firemen knocking at the door.

My mate is a Joiner on the complex and he has been snagging on it now for the last 6 Months, then again me and mi mates are convinced this is because of his Joining Skills....or lack of!

The Fire started in the Basement with some oily rags. My Joiner mate said that the fee/fine Gleesons would have to pay for every week over the competion date was waivered because of the fire and they have dragged it out ever since

Where are you guys talking about? Are you talking about the remaining part of the West One complex? Or is there another development in the same area?

Are you saying that Gleesons had something to gain from a fire?

Please ... please ... Does anybody have any idea about completion dates. We are currently waiting to hear from our solicitors, but no dates are forthcoming. We've given notice on our flat, so face the prospect of living with parents until our new flat is completed.

Any info would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks
