A friend's been offered a house on there, and we're wondering if anyone's had recent experience of living in the area, crime rates, noise levels, that kind of thing.

Lots of traffic noise during the peak times due to proximity of Hanover Way.

Nice pub - The Hanover just round the corner.

No worries about scoring - Broomhall used to be THE place for students looking for drugs but I don't know if it still is.

I used to live around there and there was quite a nice community buzz about the place.

I used to live on the Hanover tower block and have to say in the 3 years I lived in the area it rapidly went down hill.

There is a rat problem , drug are common and people don't try and hide the fact that they are taking them in public and youths hanging around. Noisey neighbours and some violent incidents.
They do try to continue the community spirit and TA is very active but to be honest I wouldn't recommend it.

Btw, the Devonshire further down on Eccy Road is much nicer than the Hanover :D

Is that anywhere near Headford Mews - there are a few flats around there but when I had a look round at night, there seemed to be youths hanging around in house doorways. Don't know if I'd feel safe returning late at night.

Thanks for the info people, I don't know about the location exactly, to be honest. The only part of Broomhall I ever had experience with was Brunswick Street when my son was at nursery there :D

I'm still waiting for my friend to tell me whether they've taken the place or not.

Judging by the fact that the police raided the WEED FACTORY set up in the house next to the Cats Shelter earlier on this year and took away over 2000 plants, I'd say that Broomhall's still pretty close to the pulse! (and no, that's not hearsay- the police wrote to us at the Shelter to explain all of the kerfuffle, and to ask for information on the people using the house, who were using electricity wired in from the street lamp outside, and all of whom escaped during the raid).

I'm not sure that I'd recommend it as a great place to live, but then there are plenty of people who wouldn't like to change places with me in Hillsborough, and I like it here enough to have stayed for the last 14 years.
