I'm looking for a pattern for an particular, old fashioned short scarf.

I'll try to describe it:

Its about 20 inches long with slightly rounded but pointed shaped ends (like a fat arrowhead).

The main body of the scarf is done with knit stitch, then on each end it has a rib stitch for a couple of inches (making it narrow, this is folded together & sewn) then it reverts back to knit stitch for the arrow shape ends. These pass through a slot to fasten.

So it's a short scarf that's not bulky.

Anyone have any idea's please? I'll try post a photo later.

Regards,

Christina.

I know it's not quite technically correct, but the slot in it may be what you are looking for.here (http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/scarfslitphotobb.htm)

www.knittingpatterncentral.com have lots of patterns like that also do a search for vintage patterns or 40's / wartime patterns as it sounds like a pattern that was very popular during wartime.

It's called an Ascot buttonhole scarf I do believe.

You are correct Littleblue!

I eventually found it here:

and here:

I'm a complete beginner at knitting - but I'll give it a try.

Does anyone have an easy pattern for this?

Thank you for all your replies.

Christina

Just discovered today that there is a pattern for one in January 2011's edition of Simply Knitting, it's already on the shelves. There are a few lacy stitches to it, but it looks relatively simple.

I have nearly knitted one of these from a pattern I found on the ravelry site, I just buttonhole scarf in the search box,
Must just say though although it is knitted in chunky wool and not many stitches and all garter stitch, its not the easiest thing I have knitted, its allright once you get past the slit bit

Thank you to all posters for their help with this request.

It's exactly what I was looking for. It's a really nice design - keeps you warm without all the bulk of a long scarf.

This is a fabulous forum!

Thank you for all your help.

Christina.
