Just my opinion but there seem to be loads of ska nights anyway. The corps pretty much seems to have that covered.

I think Sheffield is lacking a decent rock and metal night more than anything.

I do know of a handful of other places that play rock music, the sportsman and classic rock bar to name a couple....but they don't really seem to attract the BIG numbers like the corps does.

I'm not too sure why this is, but accessibility, cheap drinks, and size of venue seem to have quite a big bearing on it. I think a lot of the younger kids (16+) tend to gravitate towards the corps and similar venues because lots of their friends go and its fairly near the dev green and other "alternative" establishments.

I've always missed the old corp though, where the music seemed a lot better (a decent mix of metal and rock). They used to appeal to a much wider audience than they currently do - I think the corps has been taken over by punk and ska kids, and a lot of the crowd that used to go have just kind of dissipated. Make no mistake though - the old corp used to get REALLY busy (just like it does now - it was by no means "elite"). I'm sure the market is still there - its just making a good go of tapping into it thats key.

never visited the corps on a rock night used to go to the wap though and rebels never really been a "rocker" but had loads of friends that were.

In fact, just to highlight the fact that it REALLY did used to attract all ages, my uncle and auntie (aged 38 ) used to regularly go to the corporation with their friends. Needless to say, when it changed venues the stopped going. I think the entire over 20's alternative scene is really pretty rubbish now.

Everything seems to be punk and ska for underage people! ARRRGGHHH!

Rant over.

Heheh...no of course not! However, relative to the current clientele of the corporation, 38 is ancient. I'm 22 and I feel old when I go! :(

What exactly is Ska? I here alot about it but I'm not sure if I've ever heard it. What artists perform this kind of music?

I probably have heard it, I just don't know it yet.
