It appears to me that Steelcitybab has never been to school, so is unfortunately not educated to the standard of the rest of us.

Perhaps it isn't fair to pick on those that are less well off ;)

In text I do, but only because it takes too long on my phone trying to spell everything fully! On a keyboard I'm pretty nifty with proper use of the English Language ;)

Innit. (Ok, the innit part was a joke).

come on u boring bu gg er s!!

I'm 19...and am already realising I miss being 18. Student nights in Sheffield are brilliant. Full of fun, giggle, and generally insanely drunk people who don't have a problem with anyone but just wanna have a fun.

Its just a laugh.

Its not a place where you go for the music, if you think like that then you are just being stupid.

Kingdom is a cheesey meat market, its a great laugh!

rossyl
03-02-2004, 14:22
Oh as for the photo gallery...last year (days of fresher-dom at uni) I was on there every Monday at least once! In fact i think i missed somethging like 4 Vodka's (Nationwide's) in the entire year.

Oh I miss Vodka, at Republic its like any opther night they have, and Vodka Revolt has got wierd...I mean fear factor. Trust me the last thing i wanna see when tanked up is someone with dead mice, or trotters in their mouth. The nudity was much better...funnier and in no way revolting (well actually some of it was revolting)

fnkysknky
03-02-2004, 15:31
Hey I do go to cheesey nights now and then for a laugh but not at Kingdom. I can't express in words how much I hate the place... it's just full of prats all wearing a slightly different shade of the same shirt, black trousers and Kickers. Maybe student night isn't quite like that but I'm really not at all bothered about finding out either. It's a shame the arse has fell out of Sheffields club scene 'cos at this rate we'll be stuck with just Ritzys :nono:

Is Kingdom 'good'? Hmmmm. I went once. That was enough. It just wasn't rock n roll.

rossyl
03-02-2004, 15:45
The student nights are the only ones i would go to. I think that is enough said really.

On weekends you get a lot of people who are there to be seen, and there to start a fight in order to look the part.

Student nights aren't like that. Its just silly drunken students having a laugh without a care in the world.

I would rate the layout of Kingdom as superb. However, its not a "good" club. You don't say to people yeah go to Kingdom its amazing. It is a meat market...just a good meat market. Its not about the music at all.

When I was a student I went to some pretty terrible clubs, but with it being a student night they were usually much better (a lot more friendly, cheap drinks etc). I certainly never went for the music though, or because I thought it was genuinly a good club.

I miss that kind of stuff now, because most clubs seem to be appallingly bad on any night and now I can't get in as a student!

kind of wish they would get rid of student nights now so the nice qualities might filter out into the rest of the week!

GREAT LOOKING PLACE, its just the music that lets it down, mind you 99% of people go for that, no-one has thier own mind anymore, all the clubs/pubs are going the same way, LOUD charva music, why don't people goto a karaoke bar?thats all kingdom and all the rest are, they play karaoke music (pop idol, fame academy esc.)

as for the typing in text, there's not really an excuse, just like hip hop slang, hip hop slang started because rappers (skilled not like the new ones) cut down on some of the words to rhyme, then it opened the floodgates to people who are dumb and can't spell for ****. and im afraid to say thats quite alot of young people these days, it only makes you look very VERY unintelligent, and when you are trying to get a point across thats the last thing you should be doing.

and i think the nightclubs in sheffield (and everywhere else) should be fined and closed down for encouraging underage sex, because the last time i was out (sat) the rules must have been :

you have to be 12 or under
your skirt has to be 12cm or under
your iq has to be 12 or under
and the amount of alcohol you can drink before stepping out of line = 1 pint.

Oh i really can't resist the temptation to reply to this.

even on student nights i have been to, i have seen loads of fights breaking out. Loads of annoying kids in there. terrible layout, just 2 big boxes with no atmosphere. It's not even cheap anymore. went a couple of weeks ago and it cost me £12 for 3 drinks. I really am getting worried about the clubbing scene in sheffield. as its very limited for the size of the city. And it seems that a lot of nights are closing down.

If you can't tell by my reply, i don't think a great deal of mingdom. Though i must admit the author of this thread is not quite as bad as a girl i used to work with, who at 16 refused to believe that any club in the world was better than club wow. The fact that she hadn't been to any other club seemed to be irrelevent. Christ on a bike! she was annoying.

moral of the story is; if you haven't been to any other clubs, you will find the first club you go to, fanyastic. Once you've tried various clubs and styles of music, your opinion will change.

I dont mind the place, yeah the floor's sticky (eugh), and there are a hell of a lot of a**es in there, but i just go for a laugh!! I agree the music could be better, but i dont expect much from a place that trys to appeal to the majority of people! It gets busy enough, so a lot of people must like it! It does depend on what night you go in too....the fights happen most nights, regardless of whether they're student nights or not, i get to hear all the stories about that sort of stuff...and its not just Kingdom where fights happen too, you'll get that almost anywhere where alcohol and k**bs are! hehe

This isnt the only club i go too, and i dont think its fantastic cos its the only place ive ever been etc....i vary where i go!

I agree that the drink prices are rather steep, but i end up driving most nights so doesnt affect me much luckily! Dont think the layout's too bad either....yeah its big, but it was built to accomodate lots of people!!

There are better places, but there are worse places too!!

Student Nights...expensive??
A Maximum of £4 to get in any night.
Kingdom £1 a shot of vodka, £1.50 Vodka & Mixer (Red Bull, Coke etc), £1.50 any VK bottle, £1.50 bottled beer, £1.20 a pint.

Disco @ Gatecrasher (republic) 90p a shot of Dooleys, £1.50 a bottle beer etc...

That is cheap...what are you expecting?? What drinks did you buy? Or did you not bother to look at offers...they can't sell every cheap dirt price they are running a business.

Two big boxes with no atmosphere?? Sure you've been into Kingdom on a student night?? Its packed, if you get into VIP you see a brilliant view of a packed dancefloor of people dancing. Most students are up for a laugh, and it is a friendly atmosphere, unlike any other night.

I've been to other clubs...not only in Sheffield (where I admit my experience is just Republic, Kingdom, and Bed) but also quite a few in London, as I live there.

You people don't seem to grasp what Kingdom is. IT IS NOT A CLUB FOR MUSIC, get that into your heads. "The clubbing scene" What on earth are you talking about? Have you devised your own market for your musical taste? Kingdom has cues outside it every weekend night, I'd say it is satisfying part of the "clubbing scene" very successfully. It may not be the scene you enjoy, but its certainly there.

I'm not at all saying that Kingdom is an amazing club overall. What I am saying is that it fulfills its image, if you don't like it that is your personal taste, however there is more than enough people who do.

Yes if you get into the Vip there is a lovely view. If!

it's generally busy with first year students with no particular musical direction.

My issues with the clubbing scene in sheff, is that it's dissolved over the past few years. Student nights have increased in price a hell of a lot. And yes it's to do with money i know, but it's a shame.

As far as atmosphere goes, imo the bigger the space the less atmosphere. I may not like republic, but for a large club, it is well layed out and interesting.

As far as friendly goes, again from my experience. it aint very friendly unless you are with loads of friends.

Obviously you were unlucky on the drinks front, but since 2002 they have been that price. Being a student I can vouch for everything becoming more expensive, something i am less then pleased about. When my sister went to uni, not only did she get grants but could go out on a fiver!

Fair enough if the atmosphere doesn't do it for you. If you prefer Republis, I understand its a completely different layout and feel. Infact I prefer it as well.

But the friendliness issue, I go with about 6 mates on average. However, just bump into people and end up talking, it is like that.

Sorry I was responding to the fact that someone said, people think it is good because it is the only club they have ever been to, and once they go to others and develop a musical taste they will discover it is not that good.

For the record, I think most of you will have dubbed me as some Chart loving music freak. I'm actually very varied in my musical taste. I like classical music, big fan of jazz, love swing (sinatra, julie london etc), and am also into drum and bass. (told you varied!) I do also like chart stuff, but not everything for example Blue...who I don't like or that band of 15 year olds whats there name...well I detest them. Stuff from the charts, well the lynx advert from last year was a classic, Dj Scribble People come on, Outkast - hey ya, I think those are good songs as well.

So don't stereotype people who go there, as having no musical taste or being uneducated (i'm doing a law degree). As that is wrong. I go there because as student nights go its cheap and a right laugh. As I keep on repeating it is not about the music.

Mosherchik
03-02-2004, 19:51
Maybe Im just really tight but still whenever Ive been Kingdom wasnt that cheap, and I did use my student card!
Theres a monthy flyer/leaflet type thing that you can normally get in most pubs called "Alive" and that gives you all listing of whats happening in pubs/clubs and bars and which nights are cheap...

I wasn't saying that anyone was un-educated!
I was just pointing out that if kingdom was the first club someone went to they would probably love it, but if you start going to other places, you will like them as well, and realise there is more than just mainstream huge capacity clubs.

Tick tock.. I've stayed zipped for long enough.

Suprisingly I go to Kingdom every week. It's where all my old school friends go, all the girls I know and indeed all of my friends.

The dance side is fine music for me and IMO easily beats throwing my head around at what sounds like drowing rats commiting suicide.. which can be found in corp.

The drinks are cheap if you know what to ask for.. don't think they specialise in delicate, cute little fancy drinks.. hence the price you're paying.

It's only a bad place if you're looking for something to complain about.. if you lightened up for just a moment and actually took it for what it is, you'll enjoy yourself more.

I also don't want any ar$ey replies to the "Took it for what it is".. I'm expecting someones shrude opinion in reply to that- Save it, "all my old school friends go, all the girls I know and indeed all my friends".. I'm expecting "So your friends are all the little scallys and idiots"- No, they're not.

So unless it's something mildly constructive, don't quote anything I've said.

Andy78
03-02-2004, 20:58
to be fair, have probably been over the top a tad here. just getting carried away (have a habit of doing that). Don't worry gaz, am not going to stereotype in any such way. I don't think i'm usually that bad. I too go to clubs at home that most of my friends go to (the krazy house, like corp but in liverpool) which i've grown out of, but go there as it's where my mates are and i have a laugh.
Sorry if I've offended anyone here. i don't really like kingdom from my experiences, but i'm sure i will go again, when friends go.

Peace!

So if I ever get a babysitter who doesn't cost the earth and need a good night out - I should avoid the Kingdom then?

Canne remember much about the Corp. I think I was too far gone by then. oh memories of a wellspent youth!

i never see any fights at the clubs i goto - speaks volumes me thinks

Yeah as much as I hate the place I'm happy for it to stay there, it's big enough to keep a fair few people outta the clubs I visit anyway

Kingdom typifies everything that's wrong with sheffield, in my opinion. It's a bit daft to call going to kingdom "clubbing", just be honest and say call it what it is - an over-priced meat market.

Bedhead - you went to shoom?? Dont dispute that, but according to your faceparty page you are 31... which would have made you fourteen when Rampling was off his teats. Wish I'd been there, I can tell you that...

I have to agree with fnkyskny - if there weren't clubs like Kingdom - all the kids and townies would be searching for somewhere else to carry on drinking.
And - no disrespect to the kids and townies out there, each to their own - After all - it's only about enjoying yourself and it's be boring if we all liked the same things all the time.

...they always ring your bell, so they may be unecessary but I enjoy your responses too much to stop.

As for Kingdom - I very nearly went there once - only to spend 20 minutes in a queue. I decided to get a taxi home instead.

As a general rule I avoid places where:

a) I have to queue to get in.
b) There is security on the door.
c) I have better tunes at home.

You are a wierd one.

You never go to banks, supermarkets, post offices, airports. I could go on. You've also never been on a plane, ship, or bus.

Man you've never done anything!

To be honest you have very limited scope on where to go out, so you are best at home for everyones sake!

Funnily enough I have been to all of the places you mentioned. Could it be I was referring to recreational venues (such as the one mentioned in the thread title)?

The reason I avoid clubs and bars with queues outside: because they will be rammed inside, and unlike sheep, I like my personal space.

Don't forget schools - security clearly did a good job of keeping you out :) But hey, surprise! I was talking about bars/nightclubs (as is everyone else on this thread) not airports or greengrocers.

And the reason I stay away from clubs bars with security on the door, is because I ask myself - why do they need it? I'd far rather chill somewhere where there aren't drunken scallies kicking off at all and sundry, where security is a matter of remembering to lock the doors after closing.

Hey! You little mischief! You knew I was talking about clubs and bars all along, yet you were being deliberately obtuse - oh my aching sides.

I certainly do not have a limited scope of places to go out to, it's just that most of them would never occur to you, so you don't even realise they are there - which is kind of a relief.

And unless Kingdom are prone to playing back to back Zappa and Fila Brazillia, then their music doesn't really compare to my (tiny) CD collection.

No sarcasm intended

sarcasm n. a form of verbal irony in which apparent praise is actually harshly or bitterly critical

none detected, anywhere.

Funnily enough I've never had to queue to get in a bank, supermarket, post office or airport - I might have had to queue once inside but that's completely different.

Same with security, the airports I've been to (and that's a fair few) always prefer to check me inside at the security desk funnily enough.

Is it that hard to take a joke? Is it really?

It is obvious you don't have to cue to get in, but there is a cue nontheless. The point of the "cue" was that he doesn't like going places that are so full, you are packed in like sheep, so to speak. Trying to tell me you've never been in a bank that is rammed full, or a supermarket where every counter has a 10minute cue? Where do you live Shetland Islands?

As for security checks. Thats a more serious issue. To both of you. Living in London I feel far more secure after everyone has been checked at the door. You never know who will want to come in and cause trouble. Especially with crime as it is today it could be a knife it may well be a gun. Now you may say "the clubs i go to are full of nice people, no one wants to start a fight in there". Thats rubbish, it does not matter where you are club, high st, bank, hotel, restaurant etc, crime is always possible and is more likley when people are drinking. The fact that people are checked lessens the possiblity of any crime happening.

I know this is long but please bare with me.

I've never been to Kingdom myself on any night so I can't comment on the quality or otherwise of it. I don't know that much about different types of music either, but would (I suspect) prefer the more commerical end of the market. What ever it is I prefer it not too loud, as it tends to be in some places in the city centre.

My main reason for going to any club/bar is to try and meet a nice girl or two (the music is pretty irrelevent). I haven't been very succesful at meeting girls though. Although there seems to be a fair amount of good looking ones few if any of them seem intersted in me. Perhaps it is because I go alone and not with a gang of mates. Also, many of the girls I see are not really what I am looking for. No offence, but some seem a bit tarty/rough and a disproportionate amount of them smoke (which I don't). Sorry smokers, no offence ment.

What I would really like is a club/bar where there are plenty of good looking 'nice' girls, where the music isn't too loud and where there are no rough lads wanting fights. Does such a place exist or am I being too unrealistic.

Any resonnses welcome.

Kingdom is absolutely awful. I have been there once and that was enough for a lifetime. I personally don't want to be surrounded by drunken chavs and stuck to the floor!

Give me Hed Kandi anyday ..! On weekends that I may visit a club, it's purely for the music.

I have been to Kingdom a handfull of times over the years. I would like to point out that these occasions have been things like staff night outs, birthdays of friends....that kinda thing.
I also worked as a flyerer outside the place a number of times so I would say I have a pretty good idea of what the place is like and in my opinion it's a fantastic place! It holds hundreds and hundreds of people who, if it weren't for Kingdom, would be walking the streets or taking up valuable dancing space in real clubs!
These people "r up 4 a laf", get plastered, cop off, buy a kebab and stagger home thinking what a great night they have had. Good for you...as long as you're happy doin what you're doing that's all that matters.
I demand slightly more from my nights out which is why I tend to not touch Kingdom with a barge pole.
If Steelcitybab ever wants to go to a REAL club and have a nightout that doesn't revolve around chart music and consuming as much Imperial (cheap n nasty) vodka as possible she could do a lot worse than Urban Gorilla, Razor Stiletto or Tuesday Club. Try something different so you know what the city really has to offer. If, after trying different clubs, you still love Mingdom then at least you will be making an educated decision though judging by your use of the English Language and considering the level of alcohol fuelled braincell loss I doubt this will be possible.

Come on Poi, don't encourage her or her mates to go to UG. Last thing UG needs in a bunch of TXT SPK 18 coming on 12 year old, alcopop drinking, ladies??? using up valuable air. If they like Mingdom then that's where they should stay.
:)

Slim, have you tried the clubs on attercliffe road? I don't think the music will be to loud and you may even get a massage if you ask them nicely. I am sure any number of ladies will be your 'girlfriend'
