Hi.
Following on from my thread about locating free ringtones etc for new phone, I downloaded the PC Suite software from Nokia.com, and it can't detect my phone even though everything is plugged in securely, it's a DKU-5 USB data cable and the latest version 6.6 of the Nokia software.
Can anyone advise as to what's wrong? Have I paid £6.85 for a duff cable?! :loopy:
Mods could you merge my previous thread with this one as it's basically on the same subject?
I had immense problems with getting my Nokia connected to my PC. Eventually narrowed it down to needing a driver got the cable as well as the PC Suite. Bizarre, but once installed and rebooted it all worked swimmingly. The file is called Nokia_Conn_Cable_Driver_143_eng.exe and is available on Nokia's website (somewhere). It's 6 and a bit meg.
Having had a better look, mine was the DKU-2, but maybe the same applies?
Anyway, try here:

I just checked my cable, and it's a DKU-2.
Anyway I looked on the Nokia web site for the cable driver download, and the fecking download link is broken :loopy:
FFS Nokia this is not the way to run a proffessional web site!
Anyone know anywhere other than P2P apps where I can download the required driver? I don't want to use P2P due to the risk of virused and/or fake renamed files that aren't what they're supposed to be.

Is it a proper Nokia cable, or some no-name brand you got off ebay or somesuch site?
I'm guessing that at £6.85 it's the latter.
It should have come with a driver disk.
Even though these cables are USB, they are actually USB --> Serial interface cables. If installed correctly with the correct drivers, you'll have an additional COM port on your PC. It's this COM port that you should point your Data Suite software at.
EDIT: Oops! Just checked on Ebay. Maybe you CAN get genuine Nokia cables for that price - or so they claim it's genuine ;-)

It did come with a driver CD, might have a look if there's any driver software to get it to work.

When you plugged it in, did it not say 'USB Device found' (or similiar) and offer to find/prompt you for a driver disk?

Yeah the found new hardware wizard came up, so I went through the prompts, but it said "unable to install hardware".
I suspect I'd downloaded the wrong software, ie downloaded the DKU-5 software when my cable's a DKU-2, but the link to downloading the DKU-2 software from Nokia.com doesn't work, says the link is "out of date" or something to that effect :loopy:
So I've been scouring Google looking for the driver for the DKU-2.. Even the almighty Google can't find anything... FFS! And Why in hell is Windows XP's hardware wizard such a piece of ****?!
I've been trying all day to install the driver from the CD that came with the cable but to no effect... the wizard always comes up with "cannot install hardware" WTF?! :loopy:
The cable was bought from Just Phones (http://www.justphones.co.uk). So should I send it back and ask for a refund or what?! As I'm half tempted to just bin the fecking thing as it's doing my head in now.
