Got on the tram at Bamforth st tonight and the conducteress came and got my quid of me then went up the tram to remonstrate with some yooofs who had been smoking on the tram and generally beinng gits. I watched quite disinterestly at first because I've had a skinfull and am in a jovial manner. then the tram stops at Windsors World of Shoes and it is obvious that the conducter is trying to remove said scrotes but they refuse. I'm thinking this is when she brings in reinforcements like the Stagecoach Heavy Mob or the police. still I'm quite easy going, I don't mind if we have to wait before someone removes the scum but then suddenly people power takes over!!

Some very large shaven headed chaps at the back of the tram spring forward to aid the Supertram staff. I'm thinking "ah this will sort it out" but unfortunately these neanderthals decide to chase the conducter up to the the drivers cabin then sit with said chavscum and have a big laugh about how they'd intimidated a female employee and made sure that they can then act like expletive expletive expletive .

I've experienced this kinda thing a lot lately on the tram.

Going to meadowhall the other day was getting on at hyde park when these 3 black kids (the reason for mentioning there race becomes apparent later) who were already on the tram decided I wasn't getting on and tried to hold the shut.

Obviously this didn't work and the doors opened i preceeded to try and get on but they stood in my way. They were only 11-12 max so I wasn't about to start arguing as i'm older and should know better. I got past and as i did the so called leader of the group shouted "queer [expletive]" This all happened while there were 3 yes 3! conductors stood by the side of them and they said nothing!

What these kids started doing next is what really shocked me. There was a young boy stood on his own near the conductors when suddenly these 3 kds deicded they didn't like the look of him so they started shouting racist comments like white boy, whte **** white ******* etc etc The conductors must've heard this as i expect half the tram did as they weren't being quiet yet they did nothing! They then started shouting to this kid how they were gonna knock him out when he got off tram the kid didn't respond once and managed to get off without them noticing.

Now imagine if this had been the other way round. If i had been shouting racist comments to them and threatening to "knock them out" i would've been kicked off the tram at meadowhall and met by the police or security for sure. Yet no one said or did anything to these three kids.

It's politically correctness gone mad its one sided. The whole thing of being racist to me doesn't ever seem to apply to anyone other than white people. Sorry i've rambled on but it had to be said

Great points and these type of incidents aren't isolated. It happens frequently and is very difficult to deal with. Although it is easy to call the police, they are not that interested in turning up to move kids off a tram. They will do but it's a qurestion of how long it will take. This will have to be balanced up against an angry mob of customers whose tram is now delayed which has a knock on affect on the rest of the network. Therefore you can see why tram conductors turn a blind eye some of the time.

I'd apply the same logic to bus drivers.

I once appealed to a bus driver about harassment, who stopped the bus in the middle of Staniforth Rd, locked the bus doors and sent for the police .
They arrived quite quickly.took statements and went off with the offending woman letting me continue the journey to town in peace.
She dropping a lighted cigarette down between my back and the bus seat so by the time I got to Handsworth I was smouldering in more ways than one.
I suppose it's not like the Super Tram cos other buses can get past. But iit sure upset the workers who were locked on the bus and going on shifts at 2.00 pm.

I think this might depend on the conducters. Ive seen one conducter on the yellow tram, whose only a small guy, chase off a gang of lads for being a nuisance. He did get some abuse from them but he gave it back as well!! Its a shame that these conducters didnt stand up to them - but in this day and age theyd probably get a knife in the back for their trouble :rant:

I never use the tram. Are there CCTV cameras on them? If not, there should be for passenger safety and as a crime deterrant.

To intimidate a member of staff is unacceptable. The tram should have beens stopped and the police called.

Had it myself too....from West St to Hillsborough. Got on the tram, three youths (about 13) swearing/shouting "F" word at an old lady (about 80 ish)....the woman was obviously frightened to death. I couldn't stand it any longer.....screamed at these kids "oi shut your mouths" etc etc....tram conductor came up and tried to get rid of youths....they wouldn't move....so he then threatened calling the police.....they gingerly made their way off the tram saying they were going to "bang me out"....i just laughed as they were about 10 stone combined. They then proceeded to spit down the window where i was sitting.....i didn't give them the satisfaction of looking though. What really gets me, is that no one backed me up, i felt everyone was deliberately avoiding the situation. This poor old lady was terrified, i dont know how long it had been going on for before i got on the tram.

Anyway about two weeks later i got on the tram with about 8 mates (going out for a drink) and the youths were also on.....they were like little angels all the way.

The vast majority of the trams have a rather clever CCTV system on them. With any luck the control centre will have got a good look at the idiots and be able to pass this onto the police. Whether they catch them, who knows :confused:

Unfortunately, this seems to be a problem that occurs more and more frequently.

Just DONT put up with behaviour like this. In ANY one of those situations I personally would have gone quite berserk, black or white, they would get more than a slap round the face.....politically incorrect or not.....I dont put up with SCUM...EVER! ....TRASH THE SCUM...

providing the BTP are able to attend. if they don't come, then you are stuck with them. and it can be a long time between stations when you're stuck with them.

well done mate, i think you did right, but i do think that the council and housing agencies unintentionally stop people butting these scum off the trams and buses, by the rules they enforce on their tenancy agreements, mine says if i assault or abuse any one, even away from my home i can face eviction if they complain,that also goes for any friends,reletives or visitors to my home, if they get involved in anything. i can understand this if anything did happen whilst they were on my garden or drive,but to extend it to cover all sheffield is just scare tactics by said housing authorities,the yobs probably know this, so take the chance that no one will say anything to them.

i think the reason that most people stay in the shadows when this happens is due to the fact that there has been some very serious cases in recent months of "have a go hero's" getting themselves seriously hurt, or as recently as last month stabbed to death. I for one would love to stand up to these bullies and if the situation got out of hand probably would get involved, but to be quite honest, I don't fancy getting stabbed or beaten on the way home from work by some loud mouth, state scrounging waste of space!!!:rant:

I agree....but USUALLY you can tell the scum who might be carrying a flickknife or some other offensive device......USUALLY anyway. I think any situation is different.......you have to very carefully assess the risk factor and never get ivolved in anything that looks as if it might be 'gang related' in the drugs sense. I am just talking about your average braindead scrote who just needs a kick up the butt and smack round the head....not anyone who may require psychiatric help or be put in a home for the criminally insane....

The other week I heard a tram conductor discussing something along the lines of how in training they are told they should not try and charge the full fare to fare dodgers (well people who forgot their tram pass at home) if they are kids since they cause trouble, but that they always should to oaps because they wont argue back!!

When people like goldenfleece take the initiative it just needs a couple more to back him up and the scum will get the message.

I was invovled in a similar situation a couple of years ago when a couple of drunks started manhandling a female tram conductor. I was one of three blokes who confronted them and they obligingly left the tram at the next stop.

It just takes people power; - true there's a risk, but if you're not prepared to take some risk these scum will end up ruling our lives.

Perhaps we need a good samaritan style law like they have in the us? This means you can be prosecuted for failing to help a victim of crime if you were able to do so. Its pretty sad if we need a law to force people to help others though!

Tram chavs are a nightmare, my mate was being verbally abused after boarding a tram after a few beers in town.

4 kids really giving him grief about 13/14 years old, anyway to cut a long story short, they insulted him so much he clipped one. not hard, but enough to stop them giving him any more grief. He ended up with an assault charge.

What is up with this country? why does the law not protect the innocent?

The trouble with a lot of these anti social prats is that they know the law generally backs them us since they're minors and anyone who shows them the error of their ways gets punished.

They also dont expect anyone having a pop back at them so they do it all the more.

A while back, we had a problem in our communal stairwell with these young idiots smoking weed, drinking, swearing, and generally abusing anyone who walked past. (the girls are especially classy) We complained to the council, and they said as we had no proof it was them, they couldn't do anything. so i suggested i would film them, or take pictures of them doing it. it was pointed out to me that if i was to do this, i could be arrested for taking pictures of minors. well, 5 months later, the dark nights and cold weather is back, and so are the asbo-wannabes. It's frustrating that we can't do anything.

Seems to me from the above posts [and other similar posts over the last few months ] that this sort of , "low level" bad , thuggish behaviour is pretty widespread in Sheffield ------and most likely elsewhere .
However , to hear the , " liberal-Left " apologists talk , you'd think that we only , " perceive " that this sort of behaviour is on the increase and that , " it's always been the same " or , " we can't do anything about it " ........etc
Anyone over the age of about 35 knows it HASN'T always been so bad or widespread and there IS something we can do about it .
The problem is that over the years so many people have been so brainwashed about how we must never upset , 'children ' or never , ever use violence that the will to do anything has almost disappeared ------and this in a city that once saw police violence solve a city-wide problem of lawlessness that kept the city comparitively crime-free for the next forty years !

Going back to the tram issue for a moment.... If I get on one more tram where some dirty little b*****d has got his feet on the seat covering it in what I hope was mud, I'll make him lick the seat clean.... how selfish are kids these days? Have some respect for other commuters that either would like to sit down as they have paid their fare, or are elderly and need to sit down.

I had a problem awhile ago with school kids on the tram....myers grove chavs......not heard anything from either school or stagecoach about the situation.

If they persist in being naughty, you should follow the correct course of action and report them to the authorities. They will reason with them, explain to them the error of their ways and ask them not to be naughty in future--- Problem solved!

This is what we adults are told we must do, on pain of legal repercussions if we do otherwise. Is it then any wonder that kids feel that they can run riot with impunity and that they're convinced that no-one will dare hurt them, at school, in the street and very often, at home.

The more juvenile heads that are banged together, bums kicked and ears clipped in response to anti-social behaviour, the better and the quicker that word will spread that if you upset someone bigger than you, it can hurt!

a while ago a frien of mine encountered a smoking youf on a bus into town early one morning who was quite unashamedly smoking a fag. now my friend quite politely asked him to which youf refused and doled out some abuse about sorting him out/whats your problem.....anyway to cut a long story short said friend 'accidentally' lamped him one and he then shut up and got off the bus soon after!!
well done! and this from a mild mannered nice bloke! saw him in completely different light! good work.
