Mentioning what i do on christmas eve on the grace thread has got me thinking...not often i know, but...

Early this year i split with the ex whom i had been with for 5 years. Every christmas day i would go to her's. This year that is not an option!! With less than 2 months to go i need to sort something!!

I will, most likely, get invites from both mother or father, but i dont fancy going to either!!! Sorry parents!! They split up 8 years ago, just in case you didn't get the gist!

So what can i do????? Is there anywhere you would recommend a single bloke can go whether its abroad or in this country??

I just do not want to go back to pommie, village i'm from!! Cant stand the hassle of both parents inviting me and upsetting one..Would rather upset both :D

:help:

How about going travelling? You would meet up with lots of other folk exploring the world. Stay in a youth hostel down under and you could end up spending Christmas Eve on the beach with a load of new, if somewhat temporary, friends.

Thats a serious idea, does appeal!

Problem is i'm back at work on 29/12 and will most likely finish on the 23, so seems to far to go.

Thanks for the idea though:thumbsup:

awwww...

come round to mine, we can wine, dine and be merry :D

Of course, as I'm still living at home it would have to be subject to family's thoughts on the subject...:hihi:

Soz.........Millions of people face this dilema every year........learn to use the hardest word in the English language............NO.............. Be polite but firm, after all, this is about you, not them. Do what makes you happy...........why do they refer to Youlgrave as Pommie? A friend relayed a story to me many years ago.........a coach load of people went from Youlgrave to London............one got lost..he stopped a Policeman and said " Ave u seen Pommie party?"

The story behind Pommie is something to do with a pig and a brass band i believe!!

I can believe the friend story. No local yocals call it Youlgrave, its always pommie. When i was young and neighbours started on the telly it was a very confusing time!!

Its a weird village!

Weird yes, but they have something about them!! Just a different lifestyle. Though i dont live there anymore still enjoy going back.

Eyam...thats weird. I think they are still effected by the plague!!lol

Brass band many, many years ago were marching up the street. The big trumpet thing was making the noise of "pom, pom, pom pom" and apparently this startled the pig and it fell off a wall!!!

How true the story is, or whether i have got it correct. I dont know!!

LMAO - He wouldn't...

Even if he did like someone enough to consider it, he wouldn't ruin his reputation...

Thanks for that Rob..It does have a ring of truth about it. I'll try and do some research and let you know, but as I'm Derbyshire born and bred, I'm painfully aware of the mining and quarrying history of the county. All they had, after their toil, was brass banding. It was a form of bonding and release after the horrors of work....and all my family were part of it.

Just remembered...it was/is a silver band!!!

Famous for having Steve Sutton former forest keeper playing with them. Another bit of pointless info!!

I try and pay a flying visit back to my folks. Get dropped off in Bakewell at around tea time on the 24th, get drunk, stumble home, feel ill all Christmas Day, exit asap on Boxing Day.
