Hi all

I'm new on this forum but couldn't resist posting about this. I should probably have mentioned it sooner in fact ;)

Leaflets were put through doors yesterday (at least in Hunters Bar) about this apparently incredible "Sale of Branded Goods" by Jones Webb Ltd, to take place today at Beauchief Hotel on Abbeydale Rd South, at 3.30 & 7pm.

I suspected it would be another one of those dodgy auctions with items sold grouped as "household packages" (stuffed in black plastic bags & not quite what you thought you were buying) like one I went to in York about 8 years ago (and left almost instantly), and I saw a similar thing going on in a disused shop on the Moor recently.

After a quick search online for "Jones Webb" you'll find a few web pages and forum postings regarding people's rather grim experiences e.g:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/reports/consumer3.shtml

http://www.asa.org.uk/adjudications/show_adjudication.asp?adjudication_id=35904&dates_of_adjudications_id=&from_index=issues&issue_id=22

I'd love to know if anyone actually went & what you came out with... :)

James

laughed when i saw this one, how many of us have stood at those auction type things at the coast waiting for the bargain of the century.

stood for nearly an hour once in eastgate market, its very clever how they get peeps to part with their dosh, using ringers in the crowd etc. luckily ive never parted with any cash, but a mate bought one of these bags of goods and not one item worked.

when he went back the next day to complain the staff had changed and refused to help

buyer beware
