Hi,

I need to buy a new contract mobile phone tonight after work. Haven't used one for years, but need to buy one in a rush.

- Are the Meadowhall mobile shops open tonight??

- Has anybody got any recommendations or know any good deals? I'm not bothered about a fancy features, but would like few texts and decent amount of minutes (just off peak is ok) each week, and a decent reliable network

- Cheap as possible would be great!!!

Cheers,
TRW

TRW I went to Meadowhall two weeks ago and visited the O2 shop.

I came out with a very good deal, although it's time limited so you'll need to be quick if you want it.

I got a free Sony Ericsson K750i (http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-k750-en.shtml) and the following tarrif

1,000 any network any time minutes
200 text messages

for the first 6 months and then

5000 any network any time minutes
100 text message

for the second 6 months.

It's a 12 month tarrif and costs £35 per month which seems excellent to me.

The tarrif is intended for their I Mode and 3G phones only normally, but for the next few weeks there's a special offer on where you can get the K750i on it instead, for free!

I know the K750i was out of stock due to it being popular, but there are two O2 shops at Meadowhall, so you can try both. I called during the day when I got mine as they just took delivery that day so I reserved one.

Meadowhall is now open until 10 up to Christmas, but I'd get there earlier for O2 to do the credit check etc. for your new contract.

What's happened to those funny red boxes we used to have on the streets, and our own landlines?

Mobile charges? Bloody disgraceful!

Has to be URGENT for me to phone someone's mobile - they make me laugh when they say - you can get me on my mobile - I think - no chance!

Text 'em on the PC!

What about the Motorola V3 RAZR? There's a cracking offer on right now from OneStopPhoneShop on Orange 1000 minutes OffPeak where the whole 12 month cost is only £60. And for the first 6 months you get 3000 free evening and weekend calls.

On top of that if you sign up and buy it through Quidco (http://www.quidco.com) they'll give you £20 cashback which means the 12 months will cost £40 which is £3.33 a month for contract and free V3 handset!!

Here's the link to OSPS:

http://www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk/index.php?&B[0][next][0]=&B[0][tariff]=P1000&B[0][handsetcode]=ORAV3B

If you order online you get next day free delivery.

The V3 Razr is one of those phones that's good to own for the first 5 minutes.

I don't know one person, except my Dad, that's owned one of these and liked it.

Having said that, the original post did say that they weren't bothered about features on the phone, so maybe this could be the phone for them....

True, I had 3 of these when they were first released in the UK last year. All 3 were faulty out of the box!! When I took the 3rd one back, they told me that they had over 40 back within the month and that they all had the same problems with the top-left hand key not working.

The Razr is too quiet in the earpiece (which also buzzes as if there's a wasp in it), the ringtones are too quiet, the camera is crap and the phone is too wide. The software is buggy and resets itself every couple of days and the battery life is pathetic! (2 days tops with little use).
Although the Razr is a gorgeous looking phone, its overall performance is extremely poor.

After I had 3 of them within a week, I decided to swap it for a new SonyEricsson S700i which I still have and love it! Its one of the only phones I've owned that has been brilliant all the time... No software crashes, a 1.3Mp camera, great video captures, MP3 player/radio... and it even makes calls!! :D

I'm now looking to upgrade it to the SonyEricsson P910i or something similar. I was looking at the K750i but after owning the S700i, the screen on the K750i seems a little small and I don't like 'joystick' phones even though it has a 2Mp camera and all the bells and whistles...

The P910i is a decent enough phone / PDA, but be sure that's what you want before you get one.

I had the A1000 and have got rid of this to move on to the K750i. The A1000 was a decent phone and PDA in one, but it was too big for me despite it having more features (with additional software) than the K750i.

I enjoyed having a PDA / Phone for a while, but once the novelty wore off and I realised I wasn't using the PDA features as much as the phones plus maybe a few applications via the Symbian OS, I wanted a smaller phone.

I got the K750i and there's no looking back. Yes it has a few less features, but as a phone it's the best one I've owned in the last 8 years (since 18 when I got my first mobile) and I have had loads.

I might check out the K750i again! The S700i is the first SonyEricsson phone I have owned and I love it.. Much better than anything I've had before which include Nokia's and Samsung's..

For me its either the P910i (most likely), K750i or I might check out the new Nokia Symbian thing.. but like I say, I'd prefer SE!

Same phone, different case (can be swapped between the two or for different colours of the same type) and slightly different firmware (again, can be swapped).

aye, its gonna take a while for me to get used to the change, im on my third 6230, after swapping and changing, and always reverting back. if any phone can drag me away, its got to be the w800i.
