As kids, I'm sure we all had our own little dreams of what we wanted to be when we were older, what was or still is yours?

and did anyone fullfill it?

A children's TV presenter, then a teacher, then a designer, then an actress, then a children's TV presenter again, then a rock star.......

I didn't really achieve any of those aspirations.

I really set my targets high.

I wanted to be a "coach driver". Y'know, the guy who took holiday-makers to their holiday destination.

In 1975 my family went on the SS Canberra and we boarded a coach to take us to Southampton and that's when I decided that that's what I wanted to do. In 1977 we went on SS Oriana (the original) and were also taken to Southampton on a coach, a nice National Express one.

Thereafter, every evening my bike would be transformed into a double-decker bendi-coach (which considering we lived in a Cul De Sac presented quite a challenge).

Even when, as a teenager, I toured Scotland (1984) with my grandparents on a Wallace Arnold coach, I still liked the idea of being a coach driver as an occupation.

I really wanted to be a fireman, then as I got a little older I wanted to be a soldier and that dream lasted until I was at secondary school.

Rather bizzarely I wanted to be a vicar for a bit when I was a kid.

Not because I'm religous (family are lazy Prots, I'm an atheist), but because when we used to go Church Parade with the scouts it seemed like such a doss.

Free house (the vicarage), you only really have to work on Sundays, and the rest of your week invovles being sat drinking tea with old dears. And if you're C of E you can even get married - gawd bless Henry VIII.

But eventually I realised the whole not believing in God thing was a bit of an obstacle so changed my mind to fighter pilot or superhero instead. :D

It was to be an Engineer in the Merchant navy for me, i had an uncle doing just that and i loved his stories of traveling the world.
I almost went in to the Royal Navy from leaving school, did my induction trainning but it was'nt really for me.
Still got a facination with the sea though.

Personally, I'm 16 at the moment and I still don't know I want out of a carear.

My main area of knowledge is involving computers (programming, web design, etc) but I don't realy want a job where I am sat at a desk all day because thats the kind of job my dad has and it does nothing for his health. I worked with the DfES for 2 weeks a year or two back on work experience though and enjoyed that.

I've looked into jobs with GCHQ (http://www.gchq.gov.uk/) as I know a little about communications and I've thought a little about going into the military, but I'm not sure. Thought about being a Fireman, but I'm not sure if that would be a bit boring at times.

I also hav ea slightly random ambition to own my own nightclub in sheffield, but I dont know if i can raise all the funds, lol.

When I was about 4, I wanted to be a long distance lorry driver, just like long Distance Clara off Pigeon Street. After my mother pointed out that I was so small I'd really stuggle to change the wheel on an artic, I decided that I wanted to be a sheep farmer...

That went out the window when I realise that the main reason people farm sheep is so that other people can eat them. So then I wanted to be a mounted policewoman...

But I wasn't very good at horseriding. So then I wanted to be a Navy dentist (thought I'd look good in the uniform!).

But I screwed up my A levels just enough to miss out on that.

At first I wanted to be a computer programmer, then a scientist, then an inventor. Then around 14 I wanted to be an interpreter. I did French and German GCSEs and was pretty good at both, but didn't continue with either at A-level because I wanted to concentrate on maths and physics.

Now aged 25 I'm at the very end of a PhD and about to start as a research associate in mechanical engineering, so that's kind of similar to the first three. :)

No, my plan was to suck up to Mr Gates so that he'd show me all his secrets, and eventually take over Microsoft, thus leading to me taking over as the second richest bloke on the Planet after Donald Trump.. In fact sod that, I'd big up MS loads and eventually overtake old man Trump in the richness stakes!

Oh well, I can dream...

Realistically speaking my dream now is to get any decent job in the IT industry, even if it does end up as Office Gophering for some be-suited bigwig.

I wanted to be a scenes of crime officer for the police.

My niece says that she wants to be a pirate (but she's only 2, so she'll probably have a whole load of other wishes as she grows up).

I once emailed Bill Gates asking for money for a business idea and got a reply too :D Unforunately, he claimed he couldn't make a personal donation, but I could go through some of his organisations.

I stupidly wanted to be a teacher.

When I achieved this as a mature student it wasnt long before I wished I hadnt ...

Nothing to do with the kids, could cope with them, it was the workload, the complaining parents and the hitler in a skirt headteacher that wore me down.

I wanted to be an actress. I even wrote off to Coronation Street and begged them to give me a part but they said no as I obviously didn't have an Equity Card.

I then decided I wanted to be a heamotologist(sp?) after having to undergo regular blood testing for a wierd blood problem I had.

Never achieved either!

Both my kids have wanted to be bin men for some bizarre reason!!

My dad always used to ask me and my sisters what we wanted to be when we were very young. The answers were always the same.
My big sister [who must've been about 10] said a dentist. I [aged 6] wanted to be a princess [nothing new there then!!] and my little sister [aged 4] wanted to be the princesses dog.

She was always a bit odd...

I always wanted to be a vet or work with animals.

It didnt happen though cos I couldnt stand the thought of having to put them down and I heard some scare stories about the college I was going to attend.

However, if I had done it my life would be completely different and I would never have met my boyfriend so its a blessing really.

When I was very little, I wanted to be a teacher or a shop-keeper (!! - have no idea where the latter idea came from..... :suspect: )

When I grew up a bit and became more sensible (:D), my dream was to become a Jungle Explorer, and discover lots of ancient, forgotten cities. I wasn't bothered about treasure, just thought it would be a fascinating thing to do. This ambition was largely fired by the book "Exploration Fawcett" - the tale of intrepid explorer Colonel Fawcett and his subsequent disappearance in the Amazonian jungle.

From that, I settled on Archaeology, but went off that in a big way after attending a Dig - which was dirty and messy and cold and NOT my idea of a good time! I also twisted my ankle for good measure, so Archaeology lost its glow for me.

Someday, when I grow up, I'll know what I want to do!

StarSparkle

Of course, I REALLY always wanted to be a Rock Star - oh yeah!

Then I decided I either wanted to be a journalist or a vet. Turns out I'm better at English than Science, so I'm now a journalist.
