Windows XP home edition

I have uninstalled Norton System Works from ADD/REMOVE programs and then attempted to installed AVG free anti virus, just before it finished installing the AVG program, my computer crashed and then would not start properly only getting to the welcome screen and then repeatedly going back back to the startup point.I got the computer booted up by tapping f8 and from the list that appeared I restored my computer to the restore point I made just before I uninstalled Norton. Although AVG appears to be installed from the amount of files I can find, the entries in my ALL PROGRAMS list with a option to uninstall the AVG program will not start the program nor will it uninstall from this position. There is no AVG or GRISOFT entry in the CONTROL PANEL/ADD REMOVE so I carnt uninstall from there either.
Since then as an extra measure I installed and used the the NORTON removal tool from the SYMANTEC/NORTON website and there does not appear to anything of Norton left on my computer. I have a trial version of FSECURE anti virus on my computer I have tried turning this off but it made no difference, could this conflict with AVG . Any ideas what is going wrong here and is there a way I can uninstall AVG and try again or can I reinstall AVG over the unworkable AVG I have now.

Thanks

If it is of any help these I think are reports on the computer crash

I think you may have answered your own questions here...

It is quite possible that FSecure is interfering with the AVG installation. Try turning it off before installing AVG Free.

In the past I've installed AVG Free over the top of a version which is already on my pc, and not had any problems with it. Try saving the download into My Documents, so that, if it goes wrong again, you won't have to keep going back to the website.

There are also help pages on the AVG Free website, which might give you the answer.

Hope this helps.
