View Full Version : Gordon Ramsey: 'Women Can't Cook'.
Women - can you cook ?
Apparently not according to a certain f****** TV celeb :P
---------------
Women "can't cook to save their lives", celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has said.
The controversial chef said more men are learning what to do in the kitchen, while women are more likely to be able to mix a cocktail than cook.
"When they eat, they cheat - it is ready meals and pre-prepared meals all the way," he said in the Radio Times.
Ramsay, 38, who has an award-winning female chef at one of his restaurants, is known for his fiery temper as much for his culinary skills.
"I've been visiting ladies' houses up and down the country with our film crew and you would be amazed how little cooking the girls are doing," the chef said ahead of the launch of his latest television show.
"Seriously, there are huge numbers of young women out there who know how to mix cocktails but can't cook to save their lives, whereas men are finding their way into the kitchen in ever growing numbers.
"Trust me, I am only telling you what I have discovered."
Angela Hartnett, head chef at the Ramsay's The Connaught in Mayfair and a Michelin-starred chef, defended his comments.
She said they were based on a survey for a TV programme which claimed 75% of women asked admitted they could not cook.
"So, he hasn't made these comments up willy-nilly," she told BBC Breakfast.
She said men were becoming more interested in cooking, with her master classes split 50-50.
"A lot of husbands come and say they do all the cooking because their wives can't cook.
"It's not necessarily a bad thing - so long as someone is cooking, does it really matter who it is?"
She acknowledged that the ready availability of pre-prepared meals made it easy for people never to have to learn to cook.
RunningFree 24-10-2005, 20:39 Our lass can't cook. she has got to be the worst cook I have ever known actually. thats why i do all of our cooking :D.
sugarnspice 24-10-2005, 20:40 No I can't. I probably put all my effort into being good at other things. :D :suspect:
redrobbo 24-10-2005, 20:45 Of course women can cook. It's just that there's no way any woman (or another man for that matter) gets to cook when I'm in the kitchen! :hihi:
I would say that men make better chefs than women. Women are very good at cooking by the book but men seem to be better at experimentations in my experience.
lizzmobile 24-10-2005, 20:55 I sure can cook and I could muster at least 50 people who would testify. Yummm-eee!
Aside of that, should I trawl the planet with a fine toothed comb, I would never in my entire life be able to find the words to describe what an objectionable specimen Gordon Ramsay is. And it's not because he is a mysogynist, it is because his mind is hermetically sealed to anything broader than the sides of a frying pan. But don't let me taint the flavour here...

well im a very rare dream i make amazing cocktails ask antisocial and fantomas and amazing in the kitchen:clap:
Would it be fair to say that on average it's the women who put the tea on the table night after night (possibly after a day's work themselves) but it's the blokes who get to do the one off masterpieces, with little regard for money, time, or clearing up afterwards? :suspect:
Except in our house where we live on take-aways and semi-prepared food rustled up by Mr Strix ;)
*Goes to make a shopping list and resolves to cook this week*

I'd disagree. I can cook very well and am very good at following even quite technical recipes. The missus however is brilliant at throwing together amazing stuff from the most unpromising ingredients, whereas I'd resort to cheese on toast!

Hmmmm Strix..... do I detect a case of Can't Cook, Won't Cook? :suspect: :hihi:

If I ever taste any of Ramsay's cooking, then he can have my honest opinion on HIS cooking ability.
And until HE has tasted my wife's cooking, he can keep his gob shut.
In fact, how many people HAVE actually tasted his cooking in order that it can be judged by more than a very small minority of tasters?
Bet his meat and 'tater pie is crap!! :gag:

:suspect: Might do :P
It comes and goes in cycles. Sometimes I'm the wizz in the kitchen, but at the mo it's him.
I'm probably the more creative of the two though.
My sis has kerniptions if she sees me at work in the kitchen. She either does exactly what it says on the tin, or cooks from scratch. I like to use tins and jars for shortcuts, but expand or improve upon them ;)
She doesn't trust my Magimix either :hihi:
*must get the instruction book back off Buffy :suspect: *

I'm off to see a Gordon Ramsay demonstration at the Good Food show in Birmingham next month. Probably won't get to taste any but I'll let you know what it smells like!
Kthebean 25-10-2005, 08:39 Ooooo Gordon Ramsey. He just loves to be controversial doesn't he.
I love cooking, especially for other people. I find it relaxing and fun (probably cos I don't have children/husband relying on it!)
By the way if anyone has a decent recipe for a nice meat stew casserole thing (pref with wine in it) could they pm it to me please? I need some yummy 'its cold and wet' comfort food!
JonJParr 25-10-2005, 08:48 I have to disagree with Gordon Ramsey in this instance. Despite having attended courses at Raymond Blanc's cookery school I still hold the view that the finest teacher I ever had was my mother. Gordon - normally you're right - but in this case you're far off the mark.
karenjane39 25-10-2005, 08:52 What the vile Gordon Ramsey seems to forget is that women are usually doing more than one thing at a time!!
When men cook, that's all they do, they concentrate on the task in hand and not another thing enters their mind.
When women cook they are usually still minding the kids, filling the washing machine, helping kids with homework, answering the phone etc.
I'd take great pleasure in shoving Gordon's rolling pin right up his ar*e:)

That's the spirit. Demolish one ridiculously biased view and erect another in it's place!
Sorry, this post was going to be longer but as a man I have to end now so that I can start breathing again.

Would it, by chance, have something to do with his new series 'coming soon' to C4? :suspect:
We almost forgot about you Gordon........

of course not, he wouldn't be that blatent, would he ?
I still find it amazing that some people will bite and not let go when a celebrity dangles a comment like this in the water!
Who really cares what filth spews from a tv chef's trap?
Will it really change the way you live your life?
Will it make you watch his new Ch4 series?
If you answered yes to the last question I suggest you put your head in the oven...as it won't be operated with poisonous gas, the effects will be less than fatal, but it'll give you a chance to reflect on what a Silly Billy you were to listen to Gordon Ramsey.:loopy: :hihi: :nono:
DanSumption 25-10-2005, 10:37 I'm amazed at the number of people who see the headline and don't bother reading any further. If Ramsay (who I'm not very keen on, but who I have to admit knows what he's talking about when it comes to cooking) had said that women are incapable of cooking then I'd have had to disagree with him, if what he actually said was there are huge numbers of young ladies out there who haven't learnt how to cook properly then I would say in all likelihood he is correct.

Add to that the fact that he was speaking from personal experience (a point which he made abundently clear) and in reference to a survey which reinforced his point.
meumeu77 25-10-2005, 10:43 Well I'm ashamed to say that I can't cook anymore because I let my hubby do all the cooking (he loves it).
I used to be an ok cook but now am rubbish because I can't be bothered. But I promise to change when I have kids!
:D

Just don't follow Kerry Catona's example and shop at Iceland (as if she does in real life)!

I bet she does..... why else would you want to be the 'face of Iceland'? I saw her on that Peter and Jordan married life abomination on one of the satellite channels that nobody ever watches and she came across as very unintelligent. When I say unintelligent I actually mean thick.
all this JUST before the awards ceremony soon where he is up for "best tv expert" or something or other- how convenient!!!
stephenjones 25-10-2005, 11:04 he's not even worth discussing, Gordon Ramsey. That's exactly what he wants.

I have to say that she pretty much fits the stereotype of the average Iceland shopper.
Wonder who they'd choose as the face of Adli, because as my good friend always says, their motto should be:
"Aldi: when you're just too pikey for Iceland."

The new face of Aldi should be John Lydon or Daniella Westbrook - what do you think?

Who is that woman, what is she in/from ?
I'm guessing she is semi-famous for something other than looking like a clatty trollope in the Iceland ads ?

She used to be in Atomic Kitten and then had a part on Loose Women I think.

Please defiene the term "clatty trollope" as I have never come across the term "clatty" before and you're in danger of making me p*ss myself laughing!:D

How about Wayne Rooney's other half...Coleen McLoughlan, is it?
She looks like she uses the term "classy" without a hint of irony.:hihi:

Clatty is like "tacky" or "common".
Not to be confused with "clarty", which (to me) means gooey and sticky and rich as in "a clarty treacle cake"
I assumed they were Sheffield words ?

Not up here in North Sheffield...but maybe I had a sheltered upbringing!
I think the term suits her down to the ground...and she'll have back problems in later life thanks to the size of those tats!;)

It's not his fault, you can't help but watch Jordan and Kerry Catona.
It has something to do with the fact that there massive tats have a gravitational pull all of their own.
And anyway, after the wedding Jordan must have realised that she now had an odd number.

You are been rather impish today Kathy! But I shall allow it just this once. Thank you for your kind words about being the Forum's 'most sophisticated' poster however I hardly feel qualified to receive such an accolade.
With regards to "chav watching fetishes" alas it is my girlfriend's fault. Last night I came in with my glass of Hennessy to find her watching Jade's Salon. I couldn't believe a television programme has been made based on such a inexplicably thick individual's life [not to mention the fact of her owning a business!?!].

Surely this programme is some kind of slapstic farce rather than a real attempt by that human caggabe to actually run a business in the real world?:help:
Kthebean 25-10-2005, 11:56 I reckon, tats aside, that less people in general are properly cooking. Time was, all meals had to be cooked from scratch, and mostly women did it. Now, some families don't cook at all. In some families the dad cooks, in some families the mum. And, more people now live on their own, forcing more men to learn how to cook.

Always makes me smile when people associate Aldi with Chavs. Some of the biggest 'Middle Class' hypocrites i know shop there.... making sure they pack their shopping into Sainsbury's carrier bags...... and if they get seen in the car park by their neighbours, they always make out they were looking for a new car at the Audi garage next door.....:o
katy1981 25-10-2005, 16:23 some how weve gone off topic not that im nit pickin guys any way!!!!!
im a female fully qualified chef and i belive i can cook but i think that with so many families where both parents have to work to bring enough money home its easier for the woman who in my mind has to go to work and is still left to deal with the running of the home as well!!!
she just doesnt have time anymore to cook from scratch so she opts for the easier less tiering option
i myself am also a single working mum but i am fortunate to have the time to cook from scratch as i live with my parents at the moment but if i didnt i dont belive i would have the time with the house work and my son to take care of.
young women just dont wanna learn to cook cos 1 they have no time and 2 they dont see the point when there is really good ready made things omn sale. not that i think any ready made food is ok i personaslly hate the majoriety of it cos its rubbish over priced and poor quality basicaly
i wonder if gorden ramsay's tutor was male or female?
i used to have the highest respect for gorden ramsay as a fellow chef but im afraid he has just totally amazed me with this bag of total b*****ks.
yeah ok most women have never learnt to cook or want to learn for that matter but why doesnt he get off his a**e and do summat about it if hes that concerned like jamie oliver did. a small step yes but maybe the kids will get more intressted about where food comes from and so learn more about food.
ONE TRULY DISAPOINTED GORDEN RAMSAY FAN:rant:
Looks like 30% of the women in Sheffield can't cook. Will have to be selective when writing my dating ads, need someone that can cook
On the 'F word' tonight, Mr Ramsay has declared that any women wanting help from him in the Kitchen can do so here
http://www.channel4.com/life/microsites/F/fword/index.html
There's also a survey of the nations cooking habits :P
Edit : forgot to mention, he's rearing Turkeys etc in his garden for Xmas 2 show his kids where food comes from ! His wife didnt look happy at the earthworks that were needed on her landscaped garden
