This might be a strange request but I really fancy a Wimpy...

Does anyone know if there's a Wimpy in or near to Sheffield? I heard that there may be one in Hillsborough?

Cheers
Pobby!

I don't know if it's still there but there was one on Penistone Road just off the dual carriageway as you are going towards Hillsborough.

Last Wimpy I saw was in St Ives, Cornwall :)

I'd set off now, you might get there for when it opens tomorrow.

Who remembers the old style Wimpy on Fargate, where you sat and waited while they fried your burger on the hotplate. And there were meals with odd names I cant remember, but many involved sausages curled around tomatoes ...

My fella and I stopped for Wimpy on the way back on the M1 one day, I wish we never had, my fond memories of thick milkshake and tasty burgers was suffocated in the manky dried up excuse for a meal we received.
Preserve your Wimpy memories, go to Burger King.

I know just what you mean - the last one we had tasted like cardboard! Never again.

Bender in a bun! That was always quite amusing when we were younger!

I think the meal with the sausages curled around tomatoes was called ' Bender in a bun? '

A Bender in a Bun is an unconventional burger. Originally a frankfurter sausage, it has been carefully sliced to within an inch of its edges, curled into a circle, and deep fried. Add some chopped onion, a thick slice of tomato, a thin slice of cheese and throw between the eponymous bun and you have a cornerstone of the Wimpy restaurant menu. :gag:

probably not allowed to call it that these days - the PC crowd would go ape..

Curse that PC crowd.

I don't think you can get benders in or out of buns at Wimpy any more, by that or any other name.

Don't go. They are really bad these days, even compared to McDonald's.

They still do a 'Bender Breakfast' http://www.wimpyburgers.co.uk/html/menu/menu_break.html#

Still quite amusing - only last week was i reminising about the special treat that was a trip to wimpy as a child, before mcdonalds was on the scene. Seemed to remember you could get a slightly larger "big bender in a bun" or am i just imagining that. Makes it a little more amusing anyway.

Brings back the memories of sitting in there on a Saturday munching on a burger with coke, deciding whether you were off to Chelsea Girl or Top shop for an outfit and if they possibly had anything for £1.75 ? Alas I've been vegetarian for the last twenty three years so Wimpy is my only experience of a chain 'meat' burger - McDonalds on the moor opened a couple of years after.

Had a Wimpy beanburger near Bristol this weekend. Agree with someone else on the forum - best kept as a fond memory of childhood.

Wimpy was great! The last one I had was about 3 years ago in Lowestoft town centre.

Didn't Burger King buy them or something??? Burger Kings burgers are gorgeous... much better than McDonalds but they always seem cold, as do the fries.... hum

Just remembered, the petrol station on Penistone Road had a Wimpy I think but it closed last year..

Wimpy are now owned by Burger King. The closest you will come to a Wimpy is a Whopper. I remember my Mum used to take me to the one on Fargate as a child, from time to time. they did fish and chips too. I used to love that. There are several on the M1. Might stop in when I am next on my way up to Sheff and buy a burger for old times sake.
