View Full Version : Did anyone see TOTP tonight?
I've seen Artic Monkeys a fair few times and never been a great fan...but I thought they were ace on TOTP tonight ...and number 1 to boot, Hurrah!
But, Mcfly, ahem....sorry to be crude, but had the guy who writes their songs etc etc just done a big line of good coke before they came on, or what?
Made me giggle.
Well done Arctic Monkeys!! Great to see sheffield lads at No.1!!!!

Indeed, might have a look on Limewire and see if I can download their song.
Note: Apologies to the Mods if discussion of Limewire is naughty cos it's P2P.
Artic Monkeys is loads better than the crap manufactured sh*te you get from the likes of McFly and all those other crap boy bands who are only popular cos fickle teenage lasses fancy the pants off them.
To be fair. Mcfly write their own sonngs.
They just happen to be signed to a major, much like the Arctic Monkeys are now.
I wonder how many people who hark on about "a real sheffield band" get off their ass and go see a local band, as oppose to to just pretending they do, once they invade their living room and interrupt Heartbeat.
johnsureshot 23-10-2005, 20:08 The Arctic Monkeys are on Domino which is hardly a big multinational concern really .
The most pleasing thing about there success is that its not really been all down to press hype like alot of bands the word has spread via the internet and people going to gigs .
And to answer your final question yes I do go and see loads of local bands id list the bands ive seen this year if I had enough time

Sorry you thought my post was at you...please list the bands, I have the time to read, please post..
And yes, the Arctic Monkeys are on Domino, but also EMI.
Which, is, a multinational concern.
All power to them though.
johnsureshot 23-10-2005, 21:05 OK you did ask .. ive seen the likes of Screaming Mimi , Bromheads Jacket , Ape Drape Escape , Milburn , Stoney, Long Blondes to name a few .
Id forgot Domino were part of the EMI chain now my mistake ..
Agree with you though all power to them for getting to number 1 Lets hope more follow in their footsteps. Im sure they will because Sheffield is probably as well off for bands as it has been for a really long time .

Yup, big ups to the local lads who done good! Sheffield hasn't had a band go to #1 since Jarvis Cocker got Pulp to the top spot a few years back AFAIK
I've not heard the Artic Monkeys song yet, and not seen TOTP yet...
But as a McFly fan, the coke comment is worrying as he looked like he was on something the other day when they were on Paul O'Grady.....!
*goes to watch TOTP and hopes the tape didn't run out...*
johnsureshot 23-10-2005, 21:40 Im sure the only type of coke those loveable little cherubs in Mcfly have touched is of the fizzy pop variety .
muddycoffee 23-10-2005, 22:05 I have only just worked out { unless I am very much mistaken ] that you are talking about top o t'pops.
I had no idea it was still on.
Last time I watched it, was back in 1988 when it was on every thursday and mum made egg chips and beans, which was thursday tea, jimmy Saville was the presenter, and my dad watched pans people or their later replacements, Legs and Co. who used to dance to a top ten hit.. MARVELLOUS I love top of the pops, especally the up and down bobbing up and down dancing the audience always do.

rich, you can download them all perfectly legally and for free. pop along to their website and if not there check their forums out.
The reason they are no.1 is that they have always put all songs up for free.

I do, I have the t-shirt. I've pimped them to death. Their gigs sell out within silly amounts of time. If you had been at the plug it was crazy. I've never ever witnessed an atmospher like that.
yes, they will get loads of glory supporters but so what. they are good and they boost sheffield and other great sheffield bands.
