I'm no comic expert, but i'd say the first two Batman films are the best comic-to-film transitions ever. I like the dark, sinister feel these have. Keaton was a fantastic Batman.
The later films blew. Val Kilmer? George Clooney? No no no no. And let's just keep Robin out of it eh? The little panzy.

The worst comic to film I can think of is Judge Dredd. Truly awful. Such a missed opportunity.

Let's hope Hellboy is going to be as good as the trailer makes out.

I didn't rate the Daredevil film to be brutally honest.... Thought it was too kiddy-ised, you know, the action was too watered down so that it could get a rating for kids to be able to see it.

Bluntman and Chronic is the worst comic I ever read. Jay and Silent Bob are stupid characters. A couple of stoners who spout dumb-ass catchphrases like a third-rate Cheech and Chong or Bill and Ted. **** Jay and Silent Bob. **** them up their stupid a**es

All you <expletive deleted> will pay! you are the ones who are the ball lickers! As soon as we get to hollywood and deal with these miramax <expletive deleted> we'll get you all. We're going to make them eat our <expletive deleted> then <expletive deleted> out out <expletive deleted> which is made up of our <expletive deleted> which we made them eat.

hope people understand this, if not, apologies for anything unusual, transmission will return to normal.

Sin City is the best comic-to-film ever, actually evoking not only the themes, but also the look of the comic it was based on perfectly.

Alien Vs Predator.

The 'Graphic Novel' was an important and exciting part of my misspent youth and really is a brilliant example of what comics can do.

The film was nowhere near as bad as people made out. If it didn't have to stand in the shadow of Alien, Aliens and Predator; It would shine!

Got to be X-men IMO Looking forward to seeing the new film next year. :)

Undoubtedly the recent film Sin City. That was v dark and cleverly done. The rest are nothing in comparison. SPiderman was truly awful IMO.

Daredevil was possibly the worst film I've seen in a LOOOOOOOONG time! So bad my brain actually blotted it out and I was left wondering what I had been sitting in front of with my ass getting numb! Sin city captured the look of the comics but lost all the character and became merely an excuse to show some pretty violence. The Crow managed to capture some of the essence of the original comics so that may be a contender but I think that it is probably gonna be the X-men that win out here. One of my fave 'from a comic' movies is Mystery Men but I haven't read the original comics so don't know how accurate the translation is :o

Gotta be Sin City for my money, it was absolutely ace.

Dare Devil sucked more than Divine Brown ...... It disappoints me that Affleck who has been part of such classics as Mallrats and Dogma should have made such a pile of pants.

I think you should rephrase that to:

"It surprises me that Affleck, who has consistently been part of some of the worst films ever made such as (deep breath) Gigli, Pearl Harbour, Paycheck, Daredevil, Jersey Girl, Changing Lanes; should have made anything like Mallrats and Dogma, which aren't that bad."

We are due a new superman film there has'nt been one for ages now. Superman was sooooooooo cool. Although ther was that New Adventures of Superman they used to have on theBBC quality Sayurday night Tv, that was when Teri Hatcher was wee lass. Thought there was meant to be a superman film this year starring Brendan Frasier but it must have just been a rumour I heard

Beakerzoid

It was a bad rumour. The new Superman film (discussed elsewhere on the boards) is due next summer, and is directed by Bryan "X-Men" Singer. It's looking good.

LOL - I ammend my statement to reflect Tubthump's comments. I wasn't aware that he'd been in any of those other turkeys as I've sensibly steered clear.

Hellboy is best, so I'm voting for other. Punisher (both of them) are the worst. The Punisher is such a good comic! And they've ruined it!

i dont get why people dont like 'judge dred', i think the film was great. i think that the best comic to film crossover is 'blade'. 'the punisher' wasnt bad either. the 'blade' sequels were not anywhee near as good as the first one though, they were very disappointing.

Judge Dread was a terrible film, one of Stallones worst ever

Batman Begins was THE best comic to movie crossover ever IMO!

Just ordered the DVD last week from Play.com.

Daredevil ... sucked.
Superman started off bad and then gradually just ... sucked.
Batman (all of them except Batman Begins) ... kinda sucked.
The Flash ... really sucked.
X-Men came close, but X2 ... sucked.
Spiderman ... sucked.
So did number 2
The Hulk was pretty ... but otherwise sucked.
Blade sucked, but so did Blade 2 and Blade Trinity.
Fantastic Four ... sucked.
Elektra ... sucked (and not in the nice way, unfortunately).
League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen .... kinda sucked.
Catwoman .... sucked even worse than Elektra
Judge Dredd .... wishes it was good enough to suck.
Dick Tracy was gravy for the brain ... that sucked.
The Shadow was surprisingly good, but after about the fourth showing ... sucks.
Constantine had the potential to be good, but Keanu Reeves ... hell, he really does suck a bucket load.
The Punisher sucked ... both versions of it.
Howard The Duck doesn't even rate a suck ... no, I was wrong.
Cool World was cashing in on Roger Rabbit ... and sucked at it.
Garfield: The Movie was so bad that I'm not even going to say the obvious here.

Hellboy ... wasn't too bad, but if I'm being totally brutal about this then my money, it has to be said, is on Sin City ... though V For Vendetta is looking really good. Really, really good. And I really hope those Hollywood dicks who are hogging the Watchmen rights get their finger out soon and let the movie get made.

Oh, and Tank Girl should get an honourable mention at the very least... If only for the broadway musical in the middle.

Does The Mask count? Well ... it sucked.

Y'see, this is why 'Others' are getting the most votes ... there are more than three bloody comics that have made it to the movies...

And just in case you're wondering ... Alien vs Predator ... shouldn't even be counted because the comics came after the Alien and Predator movies, so technically that went the other way. Even so, it sucked.

And now I've finished with Hollywood comic-to-film renditions, how about foreign films... like Crying Freeman, which is an excellent movie and worth watching for ... no, wait, it sucked.

Hell yeah.

Unleashed (released as Danny The Dog in the States), The Princess Bride (and I just know you're all gonna rib on that one, but I don't care...), Star Wars IV-VI, The Man Who Knew Too Much (the original, not the Hitchcock remake), Darkstar (an early John Carpenter movie), The Thing (the John Carpenter version and the original), The Sting, Hero, Spartacus, Master & Commander, Phonebooth ... to name a couple.

I went for Batman on the poll, i'm thinking of the first movie btw for the atmosphere. The later ones were more like the camp 70's tv show.

I was a bit disappointed by the X-men movies, cos they missed out a lot of good characters, namely Gambit - the french, playing card throwing dude. And Bishop, I wouldnt expect him to be on there but he's one of my favourites.

I'll probably say Sin City's the best tho when i see it. I'll get it on DVD at the end of the month, i'm still amazed i didnt go see it at the cinema!

Spawn!
The ultimate for me :)

Failing him- I'd go- the first Batman film, X-Men and then AVP

Does Freddy vs Jason count as well- dunno if there is a Freddy vs Jason comic out?

Princess Bride is ace - good choice.
Master & Commander and Unleashed? Surely you jest? The rest of the list was looking good (great to see Darkstar in there - so few people have seen it)

Unleashed really bugged me. the action wasn't as good as Ong Bak and the narrative? tcha!

Note to american movie execs: If you set a film in Glasgow, don't make all your 'natives' talk like cockneys, this will save your audience marching to Hollywood and nailing you and your ignorant dollar shaped brain to the last D of the sign.

Master & Commander simply for the battle sequences ... damn good CGI and even better model work. The rest of the film's simple escapist fun...

Unleashed, simply because I really enjoy watching Morgan Freeman act, and it's interesting to see Jet Li given an intelligent role in a non-Chinese movie ... I was beginning to worry that he'd end up getting relegated to 'martial arts hero' like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee.

Darkstar ... it's a classic, so it has to be in there.

I enjoyed Master & Commander too. I think that's largely down to my fandom of Paul Bettany- one of the best English actors around. He totally outshines Malcolm McDowell in Gangster No. 1 to the extent that it's almost embarrasing.
