I was too busy having a scratch. :D stephenjones 23-10-2005, 16:36 this is yet another nonsense stereotypical thing, all the studies that have been done in the past have shown no real deviance between genders for this. for e.g. the IT industry attracts both men and women who, if they are good at their job, are generally very good mult-taskers, and methodical and logical problem solvers (which is another nonsense thing that men are always better than women at this) craigb 23-10-2005, 16:53 Absolutely - I'm a man but I can multi-task pretty well actually. This is just another one of the many stupid generalisations that really wind me up as they have no basis in reality whatsoever. saxon51 23-10-2005, 17:20 Here you are. Lotti 23-10-2005, 17:49 my dad got a card saying, 'men can multi task' there was a man sat on the loo and reading a newspaper at the same time... :hihi: Lestat 23-10-2005, 21:02 Of course we can! . . With my eyes shut too . . . usually in the morning. Get out of bed with eyes shut - brush teeth whilst getting dressed, drinking coffee, reading paper, smoking cig etc . . it's when I wake up and see the world that the trouble starts. JoeP 23-10-2005, 21:56 If multi-tasking involves doing a couple of things simultaneously, I don't believe anyone can multi-task. What we ARE good at, though, is time-slicing - i.e. you spend a few minutes directing your attention to one task, then switch your attention to something else, and then back again, and so on. I use to do this quite a lot until I found that on the whole I was more productive if I focussed my attention for 15 or 20 minutes at a time on one thing before switching. Joe willman 23-10-2005, 22:03 dead easy. wallpapered, fed dogs, made meal, watch footie, drank cup of tea. all roughly at same time or in the same hectic period anyway. whatever 23-10-2005, 22:07 No, but my wife can, she can read the star while we have sex. muddycoffee 23-10-2005, 22:09 Originally posted by craigb Absolutely - I'm a man but I can multi-task pretty well actually. Joe multi-tasking is just that and I can do it. I've always been able to revise and listen to music and I'm always doing two things at the same time. Splodge_CRB 24-10-2005, 01:18 Everyone knows men can drink and get p****d at the same time ;) I think the whole nonsense about men being unable to multi-task comes about from the fact that whenever they're absorbed in doing something they automatically go deaf, and if you do manage to make yourself heard they throw down what they're doing and yell 'Whattt!' It gives the impression they can only do that one thing at a time Women just assume they're going to be interrupted and keep half an ear and their mouth open......:o:D Hels 24-10-2005, 02:11 I'm NOT a doctor in gender studies - but, I think the 'myth' about women being better at multi-tasking than men is because of the differences in upbringing. So, women have to use their multi-tasking skills more often than men, so they become better developed and skilled at it. Where men use their multi-tasking skills, they do develop them. I maintain, whilst there are differences between the sexes, there are also more similarities. How people develop and employ their individual skills is vey much dependent upon how they choose to use and develop them. for example, some people have a tendency to be more creative and artistic, whereas others are more analytical and logical - I don't think this is gender specific, simply a matter of individual strengths, likes and dislikes. Which in turn lead people to develop the skills they enjoy using. Joe Me too. Even interesting things become tedious after only a short time. However, this method really only works if you work on a computer all day. |
