I was with some friends the other night and I was turned away from GC1... (my friends got in..) I was mostly puzzled as I go GC nearly every Saturday and never have any problems getting in.

I think pherhaps I was dressed alittle scruffy... They said something was wrong with my shoes but I don't think that was the case. Really annnoying, how if you go to one of the door staff "What's wrong with my shoes?" they just don't listen to you. Obviously extremely annoying but they can't get into dicusssions with everyone..

That picker guy must be one of the most hated guys in Sheffield! I hope he never tries to get into my bar.. haha.

OK! Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone is an authority at gc or work there or has a good idea of what one should wear and look like. I mean are white KWISS, Nike, Addidas shoes ok ? Cos I saw alot of people get turned away for black shoes... and yet white shoed people get in.

Anyone got any advice for what to wear ? (Yes, I have used the search function and no I don't want to ressurect a 3 month old thread).

Anyone at gc / door staff got any advice ? Do they just want trendy people ?

i think the bouncers at gatecrasher just pick on ppl for the fun of it! i went last night for the first time, brought a lot of friends from lincoln up, and i was at the back of the queue, they let all my friends in and ID'd me. fair enough, so i get out citizen card but thats not valid, need passport or driving licence which i dont have. so i walked back out the barriers and my friends didnt pay yet, i then tried ringing taxis so i could go home, didnt want to spoil mates nights. when the bouncer clicked that ten of us might not be goin in, he let me in!!! what?! and all my male friends were wearing trousers and black shoes.....

I think shoes have nothing to do with it.

Okay if you are wearig the most battered old looking trainers then it might be an issue, but what shoes people are wearing is hardly the first thing you notice in a crowd of people in a night club.

they are arse***** and always have been at that place. They randomly don't let people in because they think they are clever and the big men. I've had lots of mates turned away for spurious reasons. One lad got turned away "because you're a skinhead and a scouser".

I've never been turned away even though I've been in looking a right mess.

as for the ID thing I do think most pubs now will only accept driving licences or passports as proof.

The Way I Look At It Is-Any Place That Has A Dress Code Ain't Worth Goin' In.

My Money Is The Same As Anyone Else's And If It Isn't Welcome There,I'm Sure There's Plenty Of Other Places That'd Be Happy To Take It Off Me.

I Wouldn't Worry About If Mate,Just Find Another Place To Go-It's Not As If Sheffield Lacks Drinking Establishments.

those sort of clubs with the heavy door and entry policies are sh*te. they are more worried about beautiful looking people or who are loaded who'll spend $$ over the bar than those who are actually into the music..... they're all the same, MoS, Cream, Gatecrasher...not saying you want a bunch of ruffians getting into the club and causing hassle but they've all forgotten what the dance scene was about in the first place... *reminisces* about M25 Orbital raves..!

I love gc1, I wouldn't go anywhere else on a Saturday. FULL STOP. I've been in Sheffield 3 years now, just find it weird they turned me away tonight. I think it was cos I was trying to get in on my own. I'm not saying they are twats, I'm sure they aren't, I'm just wondering if anyone has any inside experience or whatnot. To prevent future ****ups. Needless to say, it pretty much ruined my night :/

Edit: I am a beautiful person :P

Admittedly I'm a little old for nightclubs like GC nowadays, but if I were turned away at the door, there's no way would I go to that nightclub again and help to line the pockets of those peabrained gorillas.

Do you know, I don't honestly give it a second thought when I'm going out... It's usually just a little black skirt/nice top and heels for me... Or if its cold, jeans and a nice top. I cant believe I've never bothered to think that what I'm wearing could be unacceptable!

Why are they peabrained gorilla's just cos they don't want to let certain undesirables in ?

Edit : I realise i'm referring to me here but at the end of the day, I'm just looking for a system in all this maddddneeeesss!

Only went to Gatecrasher once and my friend didn't get in.. he was the most smartly dressed of the lot of us but I think they just thought he looked too old or untrendy or something..

Kind of ruined our nite.. but I didn't think much to the club anyway and haven't been back since. Nice venue but the attitude sucks.

I prefer places that take you as you are and use the right to refuse entry for more useful things like keeping dodgy people out... not just those that don't fit into their aesthetic ideals.

I don't go to clubs these days but when i worked the doors in the eighties we had to keep an even male to female ratio.
actually that's not strictly true as you could have more ladies than men but more guys usually meant trouble.
This is why one week you could get in and another you could'nt, even if you went dressed identically.
You could get a knock back for any reason just to keep the ratio right.
well that's how it was then, not saying that's the case now but it could explain why the door policy can seem inconsistent at times.

We found the same problem aswell..

Visit www.arcticmonkeys.com go on to the lyrics section and read the lyrics for a song called "From the Ritz to the Rubble"

Bear in mind Al who wrote the song is from sheff and we have been turned away loads of times from gc, put 2+2 together and you might have a clue as to what the song is about

It's often not what you wear but what your face looks like.

Sadly some clubs go for a certain look so look abit geeky and not have the model looks of the moment you may find yourself on the doorstep whilst your mates go through.

If they are turning people away for wearing the wrong kind of trainers, it's clearly more about having the right kind of trendy looking people seen in your club so the photos in Mixmag look better rather than actually providing an entertaining night.

Just to reiterate stephenjones' point, dance music nights should not be about trendy people worrying about their trainers, they should be about fun, love and inclusiveness.

Admit it 2c4s, they are twats and don't deserve your loyalty.

dude. do you ever talk about anything but how you know that band?

sure. cool. you know some local band. but it's quite tacky of you to speak of nothing else, and at the moment you sound like a complete hanger on.

I have a mental picture of you being like the bird in Little Britain constantly saying to anyone who listens, "I was Molly Sugden's bridesmaid..."

really sorry mate,

there ain't much else to talk about on here,

Theres a buzz around for them at the mo, I just thought it may be interesting reading.

I am aware that I may seem a little sad but I used to be in the band. It's amazing how much has happned since we were jst messin around with a few guitarsin Al's garage.

If you have something more interesting to talk about, please go ahead...

I ain't no hang on mate, I was there at the start I was talkin about them before they even played a gig.. what annoys me are the tag ons that like them now because it's the cool thing to do.

P.S I have a mental picture of you being a sad **** who recites TV Programmes and applies them to people they havn't met.

Perhaps both of you should get a grip? Insulting eachother over an internet messageboard is the height of childishness.

Perhaps you should mind your own business fella. I expect I could bring up loads of juvenile comments you've made on here, but really i just can't be bothered.

All I was trying to do was help Uncle_G over his Avid Merrion style obsession.

It's a lovely bun fight you are having but could you put away your glittery handbags and can we get back to the exciting topic of rejection from Gatecrasher?

Reasons for rejection so far are:

Wrong shoes
Wrong clothes
You are too ugly.
You are too old

ha ha,

iv'e put mine away now, think he still has his out though

What annoys me like someone said earlier is that they don't give you a reason for turning u away.

they must be briefed on who not to let in but it just seems so personal, especially when you have been planning the night for ages.

I'm back to the leadmill nowadays, playin the oldskool dance again like theres no tommorow:clap:

alot of places have a dress code for safety reasons, more than anything.. some places use a dress codee to filter out the stereotypical "bad lads" and "bad girls" etc, but mostly its for safety and security reasons..
