According to reports from Staff, the ruby lounge is closed down for good. (As the staff are all looking for new jobs etc). Appearently, and this is second hand info, so don't bite my hand off over it, cos we all love abit of gossip, but the staff weren't told they were closed, and weren't paid for their last shifts. haha. According to reports it's actually be "flooded". I don't know if this means that it's going to be drained and re-opened, or if that marks the end of it. The one in barnsley is closed too I think. Again, I'm not 100% sure. So in answer to your question, yes, it's been flooded. But I'm not sure if it's going to reopen or not. Looks pretty shut down to me...

Shame cos I thought it was one of our better bars..

i had heard that they had no electricity, possibly due to flooding, but that's also 2nd hand info

According to a mate (so again second hand info).
They were losing money, and never actually made any profit. Allthough to be honest, everytime I've been past during the day it's seemed quite busy during dinner time etc.

Our band, Grey Cooper Love Party, were due to play there on Tuesday, and it was cancelled because the place HAS shut down.

It may re-open soon, who knows.

I was in Lloyds next door over this weekend and there was a big white lorry picking up furniture which appeared to be from the Ruby Lounge. It's a bit of a shame as it was nice when it started but seemed to get a bit run down. I think it suffered from being right next door to Crystal, they were both going for the same kind of market and Crystal was always going to win hands down, it really has more than the edge over the Ruby Lounge. If it had been the other side of the city centre or even a few roads away it would probably have worked.

I hate to see local businesses shut down, especially if they've had to shut down there other branch too. Running your own business is a tough life.

Flooded my ass, strange how two pubs with the same name owned by the same company close at the same time.

Do you think they might have gone bankrupt

I used to have a job at the ruby lounge, until they closed the doors without telling anyone and not payin them either. apparently they were havin lots of money probs. the last night i worked there the taps were all empty and the fridges too so presume they had no £ to buy booze.
think one of the managers was gonna try n buy the other one out so maybe it'll open again

Think you'll find thats libellous matey. The manager is a good friend of mine, I went to school with him and you ought to be more careful what you say about people.

What really happened is the owners were paying themselves a wage that the bar could not sustain and as previously stated they had no money to buy booze. One owner is trying to buy the other out as far as I know so it may be open yet.

'Tis only what I heard down the grapevine.

As for what you're saying, paying yourself a wage you can't sustain (with regards to the owners!) is tantamount to robbery - at least for the staff!

It'll be a shame if they don't manage to reopen, it's a nice place.

why don't u and other disgruntled erstwhile employees picket the entrance until they cough up with your wages....shudn't take too long as i'm sure they wouldn't like the adverse publicity, or should i say even more adverse publicity....

The Ruby Lounge opened again yesterday. Apparently the manager owed lots of money that he couldn't afford to pay so had to close both bars. He's since been bought out by one of the other managers. Lots of people are still owed a lot of money though.
