View Full Version : Anyone go to the last laugh comedy club?
Foxprom 23-10-2005, 02:56 PM Just wanted to find out if any one went to the opening weekend of the last laugh comedy club at the roundhouse under ponds forge, saw lots of posters and forum chat about the build up, but no one has made any postings on it yet.
i didnt go.not that i remember anyway.its all fuzzy.
SWFC00 23-10-2005, 07:16 PM Did anyone go to the Last Laugh comedy club opening, at the Roundhouse last night? It was a great night. Definitely room for improvement, but once they iron things out I think it will be a much needed acquisition to Sheffield city centre nightlife Once "word of mouth" get's around, I think it will prove hugely popular. Everyone I spoke to last night was full of praise I said they would definitely be back. Toby Foster & Justin Moorhouse (of Phoenix Nights fame) were my highlight of the evening...
I posted this on Saturday!! No-one replied...
Foxprom 23-10-2005, 08:48 PM sorry didnt search and should have done
Saturday night was better sold out with 300 + customers and top comedy from all the acts.
Hope that lots of local people and visitors to this city support the event.
SWFC00 24-10-2005, 12:08 AM I imagine it will get better week after week. Did you go to the Friday night show aswell?
muddycoffee 24-10-2005, 12:20 AM What top acts, Anyone we have heard of?

On friday night Toby Foster (from Radio Sheffield & Phoenix Nights) Justin Moorhouse (also from Phoenix Nights) were two of the comedians.
The other two I hadn't heard of before, but were extremely funny.
Murph 24-10-2005, 02:16 AM The other two were Howard Read (very funny man) and Mitch Benn (excellent comedy-singer, he's got a show on Radio 2 I think).
I only went to the Friday show but really enjoyed it - should be even better as the weeks go by too.
goldenfleece 24-10-2005, 01:19 PM What happened to AQUA....is it now the Roundhouse again? Have they scrapped all their club nights?
gruff 24-10-2005, 01:32 PM went, enjoyed it.
a great mix of comedians.
definitely go again and would recommend it.
mich benn was a revelation... don't think everyone in the audience were totally tuned in to his anti-crap music sensibilities... a few young ladies faces looked almost horrified when he ripped into westlife and x-factor and the like... and how everything sounds like coldplay now.... great stuff.

I logged on to their website to get tickets for friday night.
However the calendar didn't show any night as being on or as being sold out so I couldn't buy any tickets.
I couldn't go Saturday although tickets showed to be available on their website.
So I dropped them an email to ask if it was still launching Fri and if any tickets were available.
Haven't received a reply from the them whatsoever.
If that's the level of customer service then I'll pass thanks.
SWFC00 24-10-2005, 02:00 PM Apparently they have been having some problems with the booking / email systems. Just ironing out a few creases I think. Should be fine for next week. Give it a try mate
lastlaugh 24-10-2005, 02:04 PM That's a shame DaBouncer, there are a few parts of the whole thing that we need to get better, and the main one is the booking system. Tickets are available online, or in person from Ponds Forge reception, Jacks Music or Forever Changes Records. You can of course pay on the door on the night.
We thought it was great, all in all. Naturally, a couple of things we need to address, but we will get on to those.
spinac 26-10-2005, 02:48 PM I'll forgive the booking system (and the slow bar service) if the show is good - AND IT WAS! Toby Foster takes some beating as a compere and Justin Moorhouse and Mitch Benn were excellent although Howard Read would probably appeal to a more eccentric sense of humour.
I was a bit concerned that some of the intimate atmosphere at The Lescar would be lost making it difficult for the acts to create a rapport with the audience. Not so - the tables were tightly packed together, which although it made it difficult to move around, really helps to get everyone close to the acts. I'm hoping to persuade my work colleagues to go there for our Christmas Party - well done to Toby Foster & Scott Barton for making this happen in Sheffield. Go there - support it, you'll be glad you did.

Is it linked with the stuff at Lescar at all?
How are the old comedy nights at Lescar doing these days anyhow? Been meaning to get down to one recently - especially seeing as a live down the road pretty much now!
lastlaugh 01-11-2005, 07:24 AM Yeah, we do The Lescar on Thursdays, then the much bigger Roundhouse at the weekend. The only trouble with The Lescar is that it's relatively small, and invariably books up on Fridays for the following Saturday. The Roundhouse is bigger, which means we can get more in, put more acts on stage, open later etc etc.
Both great clubs, and quite different from each other.
