Hi folks,

seen a few other threads on this forum about Sheffield Pirates.

I was a student up in Sheffield 1995-99.

Absolutely loved the pirate scene when I was up there - coming from London although I was spoilt for pirates back home, they had a real different feel and style up here. I seem to remember Joy, Foulmouth, Freedom, Dance FM, Fantasy and of course SCR!!

Reason for posting having found this forum is that I recently found about 70 mins (a good CD's worth) of SCR recording from 1998 - 45 mins of Lex (or Legs?) Diamond - roots reggae and ska plus another 25 or so of DJ Skyjuice (swing and dancehall). That Diamond DJ was just something else - a truly unique style!!!!

I'm slowly converting tapes to CD and getting rid of my originals.... so if anyone wants a copy on CDR of the above - perhaps you're a sheffield reggae follower, or Sheffield pirates/SCR fan, then PM me and I'll sort you a copy for nowt.... would hate to think I'd destroy a recording that someone up that way might have been badly looking for!!!

Cheers,
Steve

Hi steve' legs is an old friend of mine but i have'nt seen him for some time. He had a revival night held at sadacca on the wicker each month' but to be honest i dont know if he still plays there. but yea the old reggae ska tunes are great i still have a tape from SCR from around 1990.

Hello only_me,

Legs' show was the highlight of Sheffield's airwaves when I was up there... original style of presenting and pulling out some really rare revival and dubs :-)

Pm me if you want a recording sorted

Cheers steve got the cd today, just listening now, awesome :)

its a bit later than what i remember cos i left sheff in about 92 so i mustve been listening too scr etc about 1990 - 1992, brings back the memories of going to a few blues dances too, dockers, the one in broomhall (i forget the name) and the one down off the end of london road, i believe thats mentioned in another thread, was just a hut built in a back garden :)

#madness, madness they call it gladness

ill have to contact my old mates from pitsmoor see if they still have some old tapes with the pirates on see if i can get some to rip to cd too :)

i used to live in some flats on earldom drive, and i believe a pirate station was based in the flats opposite.
