Hi.

Just aquired new phone on contract, Nokia 6601, anyway I want to put some MP3s on it and stuff for ringtones and that, but it's got Infrared connection to PC instead of Bluetooth.

Yeah I know Bluetooth's better before anyone starts, anyway my point is does anyone know where I could get an IR adaptor for my PC that would work with my new phone?

Helpful none-flame filled responses will be welcomed.

Anyone flames me and they get reported to the Mods.

Try Amazon:

IR Dongle (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001URFFM/202-3392276-1162237)

IR is perfectly adequate as I've just got a new nokia and have used an IRDa dongle with PCSuite to upload mp3 files OK.

Blue Tooth they say can go to 1Mbps and usb is like having a HD connect to it.

But if it's only for ringtones then you wouldn't want the full 2Mb, just a sample, surely.

Fair enough. It's just that I have an Irda thingy which cost £3 and the usb connector is about £15. Horses for courses, I suppose.

Thanks Max but I'm somewhat reluctant to use Amazon Marketplace again after the last time I used it, the fecking seller turned round and said he didn't want to sell me the item...

Might try and pop down to Maplins at some point and see what they've got.. If not I can take the phone back within 14 days and swap it for a bluetooth one, cos I've got a bluetooth dongle I bought for my last phone.

I bought an Irda with a usb cable from Comet a while ago when I was using my Samsung E600, and it's awful. I had to hold the Irda up against the phone for it to work.

When I bought my Nokia 6310i, I tried the Irda with that, and the same thing happened. The thing with the Nokia is that it has a media card, so I just put that in the slot on my pc, and do any transferring that way. So, if you have a phone with a media card, but don't have media slots on your pc, it might be as well to invest in a media card reader:)
