Hi all.
I run The Last Laugh Comedy Club at The Lescar on Thursday nights, but I've got a real dillemma. The gig sells out so quickly that we find ourselves turning away more people than we actaully get in. This is a real problem. So, obviously I'm trying to find somewhere else to put on a gig, on the same night, to run alongside the Lescar. Ideally we need to seat 200 people, with a small stage in it. S11 would be ideal. Any ideas folks? I can't find a thing.
Upstairs at Brincliffe Oaks
Nether edge area - great for students
Probably holds more than 200
Yeah I do agree Lescar is a bit cramped, I was there last summer and it was unbearable with the heat.
VIP pass required Toby if you secure this venue and its suitable.

How about trying the Polish club on Ecclesall Road? I think it's called the Millenium Hall or something now. Anyway, opposite Groucho's.
Had an office party there at Christmas, it could be ideal, it's certainly about the right size.
I remember going to The Highcliffe at Greystones in the 70s to hear the likes of Capstick and Mike Harding. They had a big room then but I haven't been for a while so it may have changed. Worth checking and it is S11 - but not quite, unfortunately, Ecclesall.
I don't think the Highcliffe has a big room any more.
Can the Classic Rock Bar fit 200 Buffy?

Toby use Takapuna (www.takapunabar.co.uk). They would LOVE you to run the night there!
Give em a shout! They have already done one comedy night there and are on about doing another (see this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6224) thread)!
Go on... you've nowt to lose and everything to gain mate!

What about taking it back to its roots in Broomhill Toby? Mind you, I can't see how you'd get 200 in the back room at The South Seas. It didn't really work even then. Crookes WMC might do the job though. Or the Merlin Theatre in Nether Edge? Not sure how good that would be for drinks though. Why not do it in the city centre? The new Leopold Street development was supposed to be having a comedy club but they've pulled out now. Or the Crucible Studio?
Do you really need a stage though? I've been to your place in Bradford (I don't want you to think I'm a groupie!) and I didn't like the stage layout. The Lescar is great because it's like a night out with old friends.
If you wanted it in Hillsborough, I could think of a place that might be going but it'd need fitting out and it'd cost you about £1,000 pcm! I suspect a Hillsborough crowd might not really work anyway!
Who will you get to compere it? Is Roger coming back?
Whatever you do, keep it going, because it's one Sheffield's best kept secrets, and it's the best comedy club in the north. I keep worrying when I see you flirting with that Christa woman on Look North that one day you'll move it lock, stock and barrel to Leeds!
One last thing, when's Daniel Kitson coming back?

The Lescar is cool, just a shame it's a bit pokey in the back like.
Well what I think you should do is hold a comedy festival in the back garden of the lescar when it's all warm and summery! Get loads of good acts and have a Sunday afternoon thang going on with like five or six good comics and yourself of course (hehe).
It would be boss and you could make muchos wonga from the picnic table masses.
I know you might think this isn't what I asked about but you'd be mad not to do it.
