Hi..
Just looking to upgrade from a 28" 100Hz Wide/Flatscreen Panasonic (going to use that for the Xbox) to an LCD Television but don't know where to look.
I've checked Argos/Curry's/Dixons/Comet and their all OK but I don't want to pay over £230 for an extended warranty.
Does anyone know where I can get hold of one with a free 5 year insurance from a reputable dealer (I know Debenhams used to)? I would prefer a Panasonic but any decent branded telly would do if it looks/sounds good (I know Panasonic sound great)
Also, can anyone recommend an LCD TV? How long do they last? Is there a brand I should stay away from?
Cheers..
I think John Lewis extend any manufacturer's warranty to 2 years if you buy from them.
As for recommended models, I'm afraid I'm not clued up on them at the moment. Definitely go HD-ready though if you can.
Cheers Phil, I'll give them a try!
I'm looking at HD ready Telly's as the signal is supposed to be changing over in the next 2 years for certain digital channels..
Just looked on their website and they are a little more expensive than Curry's but you get the £230+ 5 year warranty free which works out a hell of a lot cheaper!
We've had a 28" LG LCD TV for 2 years plus now without a single problem - I hope I am not tempting fate - also a 14" Samsung LCD - equally no problems.
I was looking at LG LCD's in Currys earlier on today! Nice sets!
The only thing that put me off the one I was looking at was the sound quality which seemed very tinny compared to the Panasonic ones.. But on the other hand, I'd probably have to invest in a 5.1 sound system thing to get the best out of any of them anyway!

Try Richer Sounds at Broomhill, they usually really know their stuff and the prices are really good. Their extended warranties usually aren't terribly expensive and actually have some great features (cooling off period... possibly buy back guarantee, can't quite remember!)

Try Richer sounds at Broomhill. They do a good range of LCD TV's and offer a very sensible panel insurance scheme (not like the rip-off insurance schemes offered by the high street electrical retailers)at a cost 10% of the purchase price for 3 years (parts and labour) cover.
I bought an LG set from there earlier this year and was delighted with the service and the overall cost.
And, just in case you are wondering I do not have anything to do with Richer but believe in highlighting good value and service when I get it.
Mr Chris - we must be Psychic to post almost the same response at the same time - or did you know I was going to say that?
