View Full Version : Im having a Java Pa-lava
ive been messing with my website and before i can check for vast amount of errors i have to get past the contents page...which will not load up the link boxes in FIREFOX.. keeps coming up with java error. yet i have the most upto date java and it is enabled in my settings...viewing the site in Internet Explorer the page is fine..
confused?...oh yes muchly!

would like to know what browser people are using and if they can click on any links.
coz i cant! grrrrrrrr
(loading java applet failed)
heh, its worse than that for me! it kills my firefox dead. just hangs. all firefox windows die. thanks for that ;)
ff1.0.7
seems ok in IE.
if all you want to do is change the colour for the hover state, please, for the love of jebus, dont use java...
its a function in Frontpage... which people hate... but i dont know any html etc... so i just use the functions and look at the results.
i know f all bout java... just that its havin a hell of a lot of problems with firefox!
can i suggest you dont use the function? even if it worked perfectly, i would suggest not using it. people on even fairly decent specced machines have to wait for java to start. it takes about 5 seconds or so on my machine. all that, just to get some (forgive me) tacky hover state is not good.
there are other good reasons too to do with accessibility, screen readers, search engine rankings.
i could go on :)
points taken... i thought it just made it look a little bit more smart.. ah well..you dont try you dont know.
i shall have a fiddle 2mos and go for standard. ta
wot about the picture gallery option?...seems to work ok on mine.

ToryCynic 21-10-2005, 22:31 Works perfectly OK in IE.
See FP thread.
ToryCynic 21-10-2005, 22:32 Man Utd. goes to Porsche.
in FF, the picture gallery works fine until just after the Frank Smith - London image, then it hangs.
thanks for looking guys... the pictures work fine on mine (except that man utd thing...which is strange why its switching..but not a big prob)
i think i'll leave that gallery til i sort other bits out.
hope i didnt sound too critical and dismissive, mtheo. :) good luck.

nah..its all constructive! which is what i want from people... i used to have a site that looked fantastic....but then someone told me it took 5 minutes to load a page (NOT going over the top....really took that long! haha)
thanks..
alchresearch 22-10-2005, 08:51 The site is looking good but I'm not sure about the way you've done your buttons, Flash buttons may have been a lot easier, or just simple GIFs with an 'onhover' changing them.
Have you considered a DHTML menu system? I use the Milonic (http://www.milonic.com) menu for a number of my sites and it's never let me down.
