View Full Version : Breakfast Look North weather!
Having paid special attention to Look North weather these last few mornings, I noticed they never seem to highlight any towns or cities. Instead, they seem to randomly pick three small sounding places in a triangular fashion. Why don't they just put Leeds, Sheffield, etc. on the map?! It drives me mad.
Also, on a related note, I now understand why people say Look North is too focused on Leeds. I've being making a mental note of the news stories over the last week and so far I can't remember a single story from Sheffield! This might be taken as a good sign (i.e. nothing bad happens here) but personally I get the impression they are too idle to look for stories that aren't on their own doorstep.
Yes, those obscure place names really annoy me too as I've never heard of any and by the time I've worked out roughly where I am the forecaster has moved on! I thought it was just because I'm a southerner!
DaBouncer 30-01-2004, 10:43 I seem to know where those places are (relative to Sheffield) so it never bothers me!
If they were actually anywhere near Sheffield then I would probably know, but generally there is one in the far North-West, one on the coast and one floating some where to the right (:P) so basically the nearest one isn't anywhere near Sheffield!
I reckon we will have to have a live chat room test to see if people actually know where these places are ;)
I'm willing to bet that there's a forum for somewhere likely Tiddly-boondocks-en-le-marsh where there are multiple threads on such esoteric topics like Why isn't Tiddly-boondocks-en-le-marsh ever mentioned on the news/weather? or What are the best/worst parts of Tiddly-boondocks-en-le-marsh to buy a house?:D

I don't know, but the Weather presenter, Lisa Gallagher, more than makes up for any mistakes :)

Their argument for inclusion wouldn't be quite as strong as the one for the region's 3-4 largest cities/towns
:P :loopy:

Quote often it's not random. They often have something in common or some other link. (The place names, that is, not the places.)
For example, at new year they had a place called "Happysomething", "Newsomething" and "Yearsomething"!
I find it quite refreshing! :P

Not sure what time you get up, but she's not on the breakfast weather very often (if at all?) :P

Usually see it at about five-to-eight just before I leave for work. She might have been promoted to the evening BBC Look North.
Slightly O/T, but my mum was raised in a village called Barton-in-the-Beans.

Of course Tiddley-Boondocks-en-le-Marsh Road isn't in Tiddley Boondocks-en-le-Marsh, it's in Tiddley Boondocks Parva! (or is it Tiddley Boondocks Magna...?)

Right now I've just added Sheffield to my normal Manchester city, and it tells me(on the hourly forcast) that it's partly cloudy there with you, the temperature is 46 degrees, but feels like 44, 92% humidity, and wind blowing NNE or close to that, at 4mph.:D
