View Full Version : Electronic sign?

Just before Christmas the pavement was dug up outside my pub and what looks like an electronic sign was installed. It looks like one of those signs that has a sensor to tell off motorists about something (speeding, using the bus lane....), the only thing is that it has never done anything since it was put there. Motorists still speed and people still use the bus lanes so what was the point of putting the useless monstrosity there?

To give you something to moan about on here maybe? :)

I think it's one of the new car park signs that tell you if they're full or not, but it's not working:rolleyes:

Good old council;)

It could be an informational sign for occasional use. Eg "huge crater spontaneously appeared so don't turn left"

Why don't you open the back of it, poke a few of your own wires inside and use it to advertise this week's exciting promotions in your pub?

Get a huge picture of the gingers before and after they get their beards cut and program it in:thumbsup:

Some remarkably good ideas here, your talents are wasted!

It looks like it's going to be one of those signs that shouts 'STOP' or 'SLOW DOWN', lots of LEDs in it. There's a box next to it at the side of the pavement for controls. But it just stands there. Doing nothing.

I had to go to the top of this thread to remind myself what it was all about. I thought I'd drifted into a Design ideas for an android pub landlord/lady

Stop. Slow down. Just stands there. Doing nothing. I've been in that pub many a time.:D :D

Now that it is working it tells motorists how many spaces are in car parks on Charter Row. Ummmm. There are usually at least 700 spaces free at any one time and at tea time there are over 1000 spaces free. Car parks are closed at night.

Do we need this facility?

Yeay! I win! and it has nothing to do with the fact I work on the same team as the planning manager:D

Do I win a free pint for that?:D :P ;)

Having sat outside the pub this summer cooking BBQs I've come to notice that the sign only has three settings: Car parks are closed, 447 spaces available or 1053 spaces available. There's nothing in between.

Someone's programmed it with only the three settings. Some up to date sign! What's the point of having the ariel on the top? Just have a timer to change it regularly to coincide with busy and quiet times. What a waste.

Why would you need to have more than 3 settings?
You only want to know as a driver if there is no space, some space, or a lot of space surely.
You don't care if there are 324 or 452 or whatever exactly.

I agree it does seem a bit daft having the sign there at all though, you could probably have a fair guess how much space there is likely to be.

Perhaps it's there to make us come past your pub on the way into town.....another fiendishly clever idea for free advertising from CR.
