View Full Version : Good Films for Halloween Night!
themagicwand 21-10-2005, 11:12 Over the weekend of 29th/30th October I'm away doing magic and selling magic wands at the North Yorks. Railway "Wizard Weekend", so the night of the 31st will be a quiet affair. My wife and I have decided to watch some good films once the kids are tucked up, and we've been trying to decide on what to watch. So far the faves are:
1) Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow.
2) Blair Witch Project.
3) Nightmare on Elm Street.
The scariest *ever* film is the Exorcist, but I can't face watching it again!!! :help:
Anyone got any good suggestions? Love to hear them...
Paul

Well Blair Witch always scares me !! :(
How about The Grudge ? that was quite scary too.
You could watch Most Haunted Live they're doing the White Chapel murders on the trial of Jack the Ripper from Friday through to Monday night
:o(
I thought The Grudge was realy good, considering it was made recently in the "contains scenes of mild peril" way that horror films are now made (so that 15 year olds can watch them)
valentine 21-10-2005, 11:34 It's got to be Halloween
Bisonic_Man 21-10-2005, 11:40 The Shining
Don't Look Now
The Omen
Great horror films which are good films in their own right as well as being proper scary.
bertie749 21-10-2005, 11:41 Watch....
The Saw - ready for Saw2 which comes out at Halloween (ignor the bad acting from the doctor and your ok)
CandyMan - I can only watch up to a certain part of the film evertime ( if alone)
.... or just tape ''Afterlife'' on ITV1 on Sat night and watch the one where the guy had a bad spirit with him .... ooohhhh
Cranberry 21-10-2005, 12:04 The Devil Rides Out.
Set at Halloween and has a happy ending so you don't get nightmares.
BrainThrust 21-10-2005, 12:07 I doubt you could beat Bisonic man's suggestion of 'The Omen' such a wonderfully dark film.

Shallow Grave is good though.....not strictly a horror film but fairly weird.

That film was the only scary movie to every make me feel uncomfortable while watching and I can still freak out my mates wife by making the noise the ghost makes!
I would suggest the original "The Fog" film as its very atmospheric.
To suggest a more modern film, Dawn of the Dead.
Moast haunted Live are on H'ween at midnight!! goiong to be great!!

Ringu
Ju-on the Grudge
Dark Water
A film called: 'The devils backbone'
It's a really simple but scary ghost story of a childs time at an orphanage, it's spanish but with subtitles. Excellent film.
Otherwise theres always the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Birth-Peace 22-10-2005, 22:15 Pet Cemetary. Scariest film I have ever seen, although I was only ten when I watched it and havent seen it since, but goodness me there are bits that still make me feel sick.

Love that film!!
Good choice :)
It depends what level of fear you want on the night-
I like Sleepy Hollow, Blair Witch, Devil Rides Out, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Exorcist, Candyman, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday The 13th's, Halloween- Season of the witch- The Entity is also good.
Or even Ghost Watch :)
Or one film that I can wait to come back and be re-released this month- The Manitou.
I havent seen it since I was a kid- but bloody hell, did that scare the willies out of me.
It should be out Monday!!! Yay!
Albatross 23-10-2005, 01:38 My all time favourite film is, The Crow_Brandon Lee it's a brilliant film and takes place around halloween.
Albatross 23-10-2005, 01:42 Just a thought if you want scary try The House On Haunted Hill that is scaryor The Fog or maybe Manitou.
Cliff Clavin 23-10-2005, 03:49 The Manitou is good and its just come out on DVD, another good one is Supestition aka The Witch this as just been released on DVD too. Of course theres the Halloween or Friday 13th series.

LOL a strange recommendation then, to be honest I know were your coming from, but as a big horror fan who keeps in communication with a horror film fan community I can claim that Jeepers Creepers (or Jeepers Crappers as we like to call it) is regarded as one of the worst Horror films in years. It only did so well at the box office due too its hollywood hype, at a time when horror films became regarded as cool again.

Have you ever dared yourself to stand infront of a mirror and say it?
Candyman, Candyman....
My favourite scary movie for Hallowe'en would be American Werewolf in London... or Friday 13th part 1. (Really the 1st one is genuinely scary)!
I would say Hallowe'en but it has been watched too many times and is no longer scary.
If you can stomach it ... the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I forgot another couple of my faves as well-
As previously mentioned- John Carpenters The Fog is a good one and also American Werewolf in London.
Yay for oldschool horrors :)
Cliff Clavin 23-10-2005, 19:40 Take my Avatar "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" both the original and remake are great films

 Agree totally mate. Also what about the old stuff? . . . Salem's Lot & American Werewolf in London spring to mind.
Not sure about films, but stick Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds on at full blast in the dark if you've got it, not sure how apt it is for Halloween but it still scares the wotsits out of me nearly 30 years on from it's original release.
UUUUUUULAAAAAAAAAAH!
Definately...
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Halloween 1, 2, 4, 5
Black Christmas
