I have been hearing all day on the radio that about a third of the uk population watched one of the following 2 shows on saturday night.
1) Strictly come dancing
2) X factor

I cannot believe this fact and was wondering what people on the forum think and how many actually watch these shows.

I'd rather sit and look at a blank screen than have my brain rotted by having to listen to/watch such unmitigated talentless dross.

I watch both of them, X-Factor for the bitchiness of the judges as we hear people who "think" they can sing, after all its about the judges and trying to get each others acts voted off, not who can actually sing. Chico is an example last week, although he is already a singer, so the show is a bit false.

Strictly come dancing - for the male professional dancers, obviously :D

This is amazing, nearly a third of those polled here actually watched it.
I am not typical as I often don't watch anything on TV for weeks, but it astounds me that so many people have nothing better to do on a saturday night.

well if we all went out on a saturday night, wouldnt that be boring, it takes alot to make the world go round.

I for one, prefer to stay in on a Saturday night and watch TV, when I can find something on it, at least I dont watch those boring soaps (Eastenders, corries etc etc)

Absolutely I couldn't agree with you more.

Once again don't get me wrong I don't like TV much I never have, I am just amazed that so many people spend such a large part of their lives { in my biased view } wasted in front of it.
I would almost always prefer to listen to music or have the radio on, go to college one evening a week, play in a band go for a walk, go to the cinema, read a book, go for a drink once or twice a week .. etc..

I prefer to listen to music, I spend alot of time listening to it, I watch very little TV at all, mainly on weekends, during the week might watch the odd programme.

I am also not having a go at anyone for watcing these 2 programmes either. I just don't know how they work out how many people do. I know that they have RAJAR surveys where a tiny sample of the population record their whole week of viewing and listening, but to my mind this is gravely flawed, because most people would put things down and watch more if they were being surveyed, or put things down which were in the background which they didn't take any notice of.

I think these statistics are extremely heavily flawed, and the entertainment industry take far too much intrest in them.

I have also never heard of anyone I know ever having taken a part in such a survey. Do they only survey people in London?

RAJAR's for radio - it's BARB for television. They pick people at random and use technology (not a diary) to record viewing.

I very rarely watch the TV, I occasionally turn the news on for a while in the evening, but apart from that, there's not much that interests me on there.

They are both disgusting programmes. Absolutely disgusting. Anyone who watches either should be made to live in a republic seperate from the one I live in. They are the lowest of the low. They should have to do community service if they have nothing better to do with their time than watch this toss.

Did i mention that these programmes are disgusting? They disgust me to the bottom of my disgust gland.

Oh, get over it. At least it's not Hollyoaks!

You don't have the right to criticise.

I have never seen either programme, and wouldn't want to, but I am not "better" than those who do.

As a matter of interest what was the last TV programme which you looked forward to seeing.

Mine was The Ashes Cricket this summer, and before that it was probably "Little Britain"

No it's not Hollyoaks. I'm under no illusions about that. Sure I can criticize. The last programme I looked forward to watching was Catterick two years ago. I watched it and it was pretty good.

I'm open to criticism as much as anyone else, but reality TV is past saturation point. Really really far past.

I watch very little TV. If someone watches Neighbours or any reality TV I get mardy and have to leave the room.

The forum is for opinions, you got mine right there.

Well presumably that was about soldiers.
What is that other than a reality programme?

Oi, Neighbours rocks! There must be something to it anyway cos it's celebrated 20 years of coverage this week!

Loads of totty on Neighbours over the years as well, Kylie Minogue, the Blakeney twins, Kimberly Davies (Annalise), Madeline West (Dione Bliss)... And now there's Susan, Lyn, Sky and Steph

Don't watch either show, but considering Strictly, as I have previously said in the telly chef thread:

James Martin- mmmmmm:heyhey:

Don't really give a toss about the dancing though.

Going on how many people on S.F. respond to , 'Replies ' and , 'Views ' about the , 'Big Brother ' programme , it would be no surprise to discover WHAT television they watch ------at any time or whatever it is !
Bull-baiting , dog-fighting , people going to the lavatory-----I'm sure in modern , 'Go Ahead , Cool Brittania , such programmes would get millions of viewers .

You presume Catterick is about soldiers Muddy Coffee? Very wise of you.

Yeah it must be reality TV. Where on earth do you get these presumptions!

It was a short comedy series about two brothers.

I'm afraid I'm one of the sad people who, if I'm in, will watch the Dancing one and tape X-factor so I can whizz through the adds. I don't bother sticking around for the results though, they drag it out for way too long so I just get my mom to text me the results while I'm out actually having a life

What about Bruce Forsyth on Strickly Come Dancing. Every so often he does a bit himself. He can still cut a rug (or is that 'wear' one):hihi: :hihi:

Nekro138,
thanks for your reply I am not sure if it is praise or insult.

Can you explain further?

I don't really understand your message as a whole. Sentences make sense on their own but not all together.
