As a matter of fact you are allowed 8 pieces of music on DID, but you have to say which one you would have if you could only have one.

I suggest making it a long one!

That horrible Paul Dacre was on this morning

I though DID was about actual discs.

That, to my mind includes LPs too.

Otherwise people could not chosse much classical music more than 3 or 4 mins long.

For my appearance (soon) it will be

King Kong - Frank Zappa
Satisfaction - Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band
Interstellar Overdrive - Pink Floyd
Night on Bare mountain - Modeste Mussorgsky
Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space - Spiritualized

In that case it would have to be:

Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull - it's one track on 2 sides of an LP.

That's far too tough. I think I'd just take my guitar to the desert island and learn to play all my favourite songs.

Siân

You're allowed to take one thing you can't live without too Sidla - as long as it can't be used to escape the Island - so you can have the guitar AND the disc:)

Sidla

In that case I'd take my PC, then I wouldn't need any discs, I'd have my MP3 collection.

That's cheating - I can't see Sue Lawley letting you do that!!

In truth, there's not one song I'd be able to choose above all the rest, so I'd probably not bother with any.

Also, if you only had one song to listen to (or even 5 songs for that matter), you'd get sick of them after a while.

Hmm 5 off the top of my head:

1. Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
2. RHCP - Scar Tissue

5. John Lennon - Imagine

Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds
Bat out of Hell 1 and 2
Dido - Life for Rent (album)

if you had to choose eight records and a book and a luxury to be stranded with on a desert island what would they be?

would you try to escape?

pete_fcs
12-11-2005, 20:14
mine are:

1: bodies by the sex pistols....i have recently learnt that there really WAS a girl from birmingham called pauline, she DID live in a tree and she DID have an abortion!

2: slight return by the bluetones....takes me back to shortly before my son was born, and was aware that sure enough "all this will fade away" as everything was about to change!

3: christe redempton omnium by monteverdi...hairs on the back of the neck stuff from the 1500's

4: the sparrow and the gentle dove by purcell...laughed at by my friends for this one!

5: fairest isle by purcell...suitable lyrics for a desert island too!

6: now that the sun has veiled his light by purcell...listen to at sunset on a desert island!

7: far from my land by the f... city sh..ters...one from my old band, mik's heartwarming homesick lyrics, lou and zigg'ys melodic, simple but effective bass/ guitar riffs, my c..p drumming!

8: 4 minutes 17 seconds by john cage....that silent one to put on in case i'm kept awake by parrots squawking!

book: beryl the peril annual 1974

luxury: a piano and a tuning fork

would i try to escape: yep you betcha!

My 8

1> Thoughts of Mary Jane- Nick Drake, but it has to be the version with the guitar harmony, not the flute

2> Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis- Ralph Vaughn Williams

3> Prayer- Disturbed, for when I'm frustrated and need a good lash out at the world

4> Power of 2- Indigo Girls, for when I need a good sob

5> Saint-Saens Cello Concerto- glorious relaxing music

6> Closer to Believing- ELP, to encourage

7> My Little Sister- Michelled Shocked, to remind me of my big sister

8> You can love yourself- Keb' Mo', to kick me up the backside when I need it

My book would be the collected works of Jane Austen- lovely characterisations and would keep me going for a fair old while.

My luxury (well, I'd be cheeky and ask for 2)- a box of lovely tea bags, and something to drink it from.

I'm not sure if I'd try to escape- it depends on how hot this desert island is, cos I burn something horrble!

2 - Beusenfreund - Tosca - chill out track.

3 - Carmina Burana - Carl Orff - great classical track.

4 - Nice Weather For Ducks - Lemon Jelly - silly track.

5 - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine - The Killers - reminds me of someone.

6 - Wreath - Opeth - thumpy track.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Cry Little Sister - lost boys

And the rest can be made up by songs from Groove Coverage. Any songs will do. Any at all. They all have that beat that will get me cutting down palm trees and making a canoe in no time ...

Just what kind of drugs are these people feeding me???

We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine ....

I’d take five copies of “Help” to my Desert Island — and the loudest speaker I could lay my hands on. Not that anyone would hear it, because I wouldn’t be allowed a hi-fi!

I cant possibly narrow it down to 8 songs, not even for the lovely sue lawley.....

fortunately, I could just sit there and sing all the songs that I know and love....

my luxury item would be a big box of vocalzone lozenges :D
