girls!--are you any good at knitting and if so what would you say is the best thing you've ever knitted?

I can actually knit, though when I knit it's usually crappy scraps of wool. But I can knit, so that's an achievment...

men are quite welcome to join in but i didnt think there would be many admitting that they could knit!
having said that my eldest son was quite an avid knitter when he was little!:)

True, I don't think many men would admit to it. My brother told my Mum to keep quiet about it. It would be interesting to see how many men do have this talent though.

A place I used to work at got pretty boring and at least two of the blokes used to sit there knitting away - one of them was particularly good.

Mum taught me and my sister to knit when we were little, I think the best thing I ever made was a tank-top type thing but it was one with really big needles so it was pretty easy ...

Takes me back to my days in the Brownies, this does. We all had to knit as many squares as we could so they could be sewn into blankets and sent to "the poor people." Trouble is, my squares weren't. Something to do with tension I believe, but I made some very interesting shapes. There was just no way they'd fit together with everyone else's proper squares to make a blanket. Brown Owl accepted them with thanks, but I just know she had to unpick the lot. :(

A good thing to knit is chemo hats for cancer patients...
you can find the pattern on Google...... Chemo hats.

This pattern should be used as there cannot be any seams, the yarn must be wool free.

The childrens hospital will be glad of them.

Before I was ill (and so when I had the use of both arms) I could knit an adult aran jumper in a week, and a DK picture jumper (I had a program which took a scanned image and pixelated it into 16 colours) in about a fortnight.

I think the biggest challenge was either the jumper with the face of a tiger on the front (every row was different, and there was usually upwards of 30 balls of wool attached at a time) or the crocheted lace tablecloth, which took over a year for me to complete.

I can still crochet now, as you hold both yarn and garment in your left hand, but find knitting very painful, but if you want to learn mikeyspikey........

The best thing I ever knitted was a beautiful baby coat with collar and hem in 3 ply wool, it was a soft turquoise colour.
And another in the same shade double breasted with a small belt on the back for a 1 yr old in double knitting.
