John 29-01-2004, 18:02 With the success of LOR, which other books would you like to see or is worthy of being made into a film? duffman 29-01-2004, 19:18 The Calaghan cronicles by Spider Robinson:thumbsup: A trilogy of sci-fi comedy, fantastic stuff!:) Yodameister 29-01-2004, 21:00 The Crow Road but they probably wouldn't do it justice so then again maybe not! Belle 29-01-2004, 21:32 I understood that the Crow Road had already been televised (not quite the same I know, but nearly) My choice would be "Keep the Aspidistra Flying" venger 29-01-2004, 21:46 Way of the Peacefull Warrior-Dan Millman Doors or Perception-Aldous Huxley Universal dictionary-Readers Digest Illusions-Richard Bach The Hobbit-... BrainThrust 29-01-2004, 23:43 Books i'd like to see as films: 'His Dark Materials' Trilogy - Phillip Pullman (I know this is being planned already) Elidor - Alan Garner The Weiredstone Of Brisingamen - Also Alan Garner The Moon Of Gomrath - likewise Alan Garner Any HP Lovecraft, though Call Of Cthulu would be cool Wilf battouchan 30-01-2004, 08:27 William Gibson's Neuromancer. Michael Moorcock's Runestaff Series And possibly an adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series. DaBouncer 30-01-2004, 08:56 The Scam (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0340628227/qid=1075456408/sr=1-37/ref=sr_1_0_37/202-9499574-2775837) by Richard Kalberer. This book is one of those books you can't put down once you start reading. A thriller that starts off quite dark and chilling. Based around Weed Smugglers that go into the bigger market of Cocain and Heroin. Excellent Book, set in the UK. Would make a truly excellent movie! Hmmmm maybe I should start a screen play.:D Phanerothyme 30-01-2004, 09:20 The Futurological Congress - Stanislaw Lem nomme 30-01-2004, 09:40 The Thomas Covenant books. Read the first couple many years ago and would like to know how it finishes :) Also the Duncton Wood books. The Sandman stuff by Neil Gaiman. 'V' for Vendetta would be interesting too. Nomme Phanerothyme 30-01-2004, 09:44 Originally posted by nomme 'V' for Vendetta would be interesting too. Nomme Hmmmm not sure about that one nomme, maybe it should be left as it is. but I know what you mean, it's just nothing could approach the colour and atmosphere of that book. Hodge 30-01-2004, 11:03 The Dark Knight Returns (Frank Miller) would be interesting, but like so many comic adaptations, would more than likely be dissapointing. Foxxx 02-02-2004, 16:18 I think Ben Elton's High Society. Only if it was filmed in the UK, in the same kinda genre as Trainspotting, shallow grave, human traffic etc. It could become another one of those brilliant Brit films. When I read Ben Elton, I can see it being a film really easily. I think it would make a good arty film, but appeal to mainstream. It has a good story line about drugs, has a great political angle running through it, MPs, policemen etc, but also has brilliant comedy and scenes with fake famous pop stars and 'it' girls in it. It's funny in places yet serious and dark in others. There's a bit of a theme going on here...Mr Nice, by Howard Marks, Doors or Perception by Aldous Huxley. Alot of the books I have read have already been made into films although I didn't like/disappointed with the films. The Beach, Captain Correlli's Mandalin, Harry Potter to name a couple. The Hobbit would be an obvious suggestion, I believe there are plans for this by the LOTR crew. RPG 02-02-2004, 16:31 Another vote for the hobbit here! Peter Jackson would do a good job and everyone knows it Pity most of the Tolekin family dont agree :/ Rich 02-02-2004, 17:53 I would like to see a War of the Worlds movie which would actually be close to the original book. The only connection to the book that the 1953 movie had was that it had Martians in it who died from exposure to Earth's bacteria. JoeP 04-04-2004, 19:31 Bulgakov's 'The Master and Margarita' - I think the Poles did a version some years ago, and there's talk of a new version kicking around. I went so far as to start chasing the rights myself a couple of years back but then read that they'd been acquired so that was that...:-) Quite where I would have acquired the money (short of bank robbery) is another matter. A film version (rather than TV) of 'Brideshead Revisited' would be nice. And yes - a proper version of 'The War of the Worlds'. John Brunner's 'The Shockwave Rider'. WintersMist 05-04-2004, 09:03 Any of the books by Richard Laymon. His books are like a adventure horror. Not many people seem to have heared of him, but the books are fantastic. I have nearly read them all. Unfortunately Richard Laymon has died so I will be sad when I finish all his books. Has anyone read his books before? WM evildrneil 05-04-2004, 09:39 Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy The Invisibles (OK so its a comic book!) Mosherchik 05-04-2004, 10:28 Originally posted by BrainThrust Books i'd like to see as films: 'His Dark Materials' Trilogy - Phillip Pullman (I know this is being planned already) Cool! would like to see that! The universal thing is that most of the time film adaptations never quite live up to the book! Wouldnt know about LoTR, havnt seen it. ( altho I am enjoying Harry Potter flicks  ) One book Id like to see made into film has to be Good Omens  |
